Hey Scott... sorry I could not get to the photos... I actually went to Holy Names today... and the field has been converted to little league dimensions (200 feet) with temporary fences and even without them, the field was small. I then went up the street to Pinto.... and while it is a beautiful field (maybe best in Oakland) it looks really small and is locked down. Garfield is always in use by soccer players and Foothill Blvd & 23rd Ave is a major intersection with lts of traffic. It would be tragic to see a homerun hit a moving car. On that note, while it hasnt happened, has there been thought given to a "broken window" fund or ifthe inevitable happens do we all scatter like we did when were kids ? I like your photo link site better.... now I have more maps and photos to play with in my spare time.

Holy Names will be removed from consideration for the reasons you listed.

Garfield....... While initially I believed that the huge trees in LF and in CF would block balls from leaving the yard and smashing car windows, you might be right... And I guess even if a ball did get it's momentum slowed down by the big trees, falling from that heighth could still smash a car window, though I doubt a winshield. So, unless further 1st hand testimony can provide another perspective, Garfield also will be removed from further consideration.

Jones "Pinto".... Damn, I would love for this field to be usable. I thought I had found access to it, but it was the very first one I looked at, and maybe my methodology for checking fields wasn't solid at that point. As for the distances, I'm pretty sure that it's deeper to LF and to RF than it is at DeFremery (by about 20 feet). The question is CF. I wonder if the dimension listed (250') is correct. That seems implausible that it would be shorter to CF than it is to LF or to RF (which are marked 263 & 256). Unfortunately, the map server to view all the photos of the maps is down, because I think you'd be able to tell with the naked eye on an aerial photo if it was actually shorter to CF. My point: further investigation needed to gauge distance to CF, and I need to confirm whether it is in fact accessible as I initially thought. With all the other pluses there, like warning track, HR-rob potential at outfield fences, scenic hills past outfield, nice mowed grounds, chalker on site, etc, I'd love to discover that it can work.

Also, I'm still working on gauging true dimensions of McConnell, Poplar, Curt Flood, and LF of Arnerich.

Hey what up guys, the map links work again.

I don't know whether Oakland United School District had budget cuts or an inept webmaster, but the maps were down for several days.

They're back up, so take a peek.

Someone with a printer print out the maps for Pinto, McConnell, Curt Flood, Poplar and Arnerich. Then figure out the dimensions based on the printouts. it makes a difference if you try to do it on your computer screen.

I don't have a printer or I would do it. We need to do this so we can have backup fields ready. Raimondi is going to be in heavy use in probably 2 months at the most, and DeFremery might have another user after the Football people stop 2 months from now. Plus, we should have backups figured out & confirmed anyway, just to mix things up every now and then.
