Play ball! Then talk about it. Or vice versa.

I would not be averse to playing with members of the fairer sex. We pitch slow enough and a woman's softball is not much bigger than a baseball so fielding and throwing should not be a problem. Heck most can probably throw better than me.

Girls playing

Post by Baseball=Life »

Well, back when we didn't have consistently high turnout, we would encourage girls to play.

That's not the case anymore.

Of the 5 or 6 girls that played with us, none were anywhere near the skill level of anyone who plays with us now.

I know it's not a serious league, but it is fun to see the ball put into play, and to see people make plays in the field, and to know that there aren't any "sure outs" in the lineup.

In fact, that's what Rico said to me upon returning after 7 months, "Well, there aren't any sure outs in the lineup anymore like there used to be." He was there during the early era when girls were playing.

I say 'no' to girls playing, it will take things down a notch. Please pardon my sexism.

I think it should be about skill, not gender. If she can play, why not? We can all throw and hit and are none of us afraid of the ball, but I'm sure there are women or girls who also fit that description. Not many, perhaps, due to socialization or whatever (lets not get into that discussion on this forum), but we had kids playing, too. Also, you'd have to admire the nerve it would take to come into one of our games.

I think its simple: You play baseball?

I don't think every guy should be acepted either, under scott's logic. Some people can really mess up a game. But there is no reason a losul male player can play, and a good female player can't.

This means, don't bring your girlfriend onto the field for a game, or your sucky friend. But if you know someone who plays, then awsome! (well, not these days. Please don't bring anymore people!)

It's really hard to turn people away, they can take it really bad (ie Carlos).

The key is to not invite more people than you know we can accomodate. Cross your fingers that the weekly option will idealize turnout to what we want, and not more.

But, seriously, how often do you expect we'd come across Jenny Finch wanting to play? I think the members of UC Berkeley's top-rated Girls' Softball Team probably have their hands full with their games.

Show me a girl than can play, and she's welcome to be involved, of course.

I think the bigger issue is, there have been no girl who have wanted to come and play. At least not since I've been there. If at some point that happens, I guess we'd deal with it.

2. If I am ever wrong, read rule number 1.

Well that answers my question. I agree with Scott on not playing with girls, what if they were hot and distracting? Think about that one.
