The Hawk deserves HoF status... My vote would have gone also for Tim Raines, Lee Smith, Edgar Mrtinez (but a DH won't make it), Blyleven, McGwire, and Morris... Consideration for Trammel. Dale Murphy and Mattingly.
I don't understand why Smith isn't in... he has more saves BY FAR then any other HoF relievers. Hoffman and Rivera will most def. make it in. Smith should be in that class AND Smith wasn't always a "one inning reliever" also.
I forgot Alomar... a vote here for Roberto... and I personally on nostalgia would move Murphy from consideration to a vote... he should be in 'cept he played on those wack Braves teams of the early 80's
Roberto Alomar is on my 3 name long list of people who should never be considered for the hall of fame, and... really... who I would've been perfectly happy to see an immediate lifetime ban.
1. Ron Artest
2. Orlando Brown
3. That guy who spit on an umpire.
*My views on Brown may be softened by the fact that the incident in question actually did end his career, but still, there are somethings you just don't do.
Lots of people have flipped out. Hell, managers flip out on umpires everyday, but there's a line that players need to know they should not dare cross, and spitting on an official is certainly on the far side of that line.
