The A's are poised to trade highly touted third base prospect Brett Wallace to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for outfielder Michael Taylor, a source confirmed to the Bay Area News Group.
But first, other pieces must fall into place regarding the blockbuster three-way trade that would send pitcher Toronto ace Roy Halladay to the Philadelphia Phillies and Phillies lefty Cliff Lee to the Seattle Mariners.
Taylor, a top-rated prospect for Philadelphia, would first have to be shipped to Toronto as part of that deal before being flipped to Oakland for Wallace.
Details involving Halladay, who needed to pass a physical Tuesday and reportedly is negotiating a contract extension with Philadelphia, are thought to be holding up the A's trade.
There's no timetable for when Oakland could make an announcement.
ESPN reported Tuesday morning that Oakland and Toronto were discussing a swap of Wallace and Taylor. A's GM Billy Beane hardly denied a deal involving Wallace was in the works.
"We're not in position to comment right now," Beane told Bay Area News Group.
The A's obtained Wallace in July from St. Louis as the centerpiece of the Matt Holliday trade, and he's viewed as one of the club's top two prospects along with first baseman Chris Carter. But the A's recently dealt for third baseman Jake Fox, himself a young player that the A's think highly of.
There is talk that Wallace could be a better long-term fit at firstbase. But the A's already have a glut of prospects at first, including Carter, Sean Doolittle and incumbent starter Daric Barton.
And it's known that Oakland loves Taylor, a Stanford product, as a prospect. Baseball America rated the 6-foot-6, 260-pound Taylor the Phillies' No. 6 prospect before the 2009 season, as well as their best power hitting prospect.

6'6, 260? I thought we were trying to get rid of first basemen?

he is an outfielder

and after reading more about him i am liking him more and more

thou i liked wallace, cause i think more of his defensive prowess than others, and he is a local who grew rooting for the A's and wishing he could play for them some day. aside from the hometown hero of that, those players who like the team and area, are also most likely to sign hometown discounts. which is something that i believe beane is interested in. i suspect the same thing of dallas braden.

but as it turns out taylor is a better hitter than wallace and a better runner
the difference in hitting is small but noticable and its pretty much across the board.

while the running game taylor stole 21 in 116 games last year between AA and AAA, and wallace is well to fat to steal.

the main problem i have with this deal is we have too many outfielders as it is. someone has to get traded and i cant see who and for what, cause our outfielders have a greater to us than to most other teams.
