Oakland @ San Jose
I don't think we need an all-star team every time. And it would be nice to alternate starters--those who didn't start last oakland vs. san jose game should perhaps start the next game. And there's no reason why we can't make substitutions throughout the game to be able to involve more of our players.

Well said, Dave. Going into the challenge game, we expected a tense battle and wanted to put our best possible team on the field. The game, however, turned out to be more a fun exhibition than a fight for supremacy. I think our subsequent contests should be geared toward inclusivity and not toward victory at all costs. Approached in this way, the challenge and excitement of intersquad games could boost turnout and camaraderie instead of alienating those not skilled enough to be invited.

So, BK, what do you say about mid-November?
As for who gets to play, I'm beginning to think that the best approach will be to use people who show up the most overall. It's annoying to me when someone just shows up for the challenge game but then not any other games, regardless of reasoning.

I'm back!
I've been fighting a stupid foot issue (related to catching) for a while, and I'm convinced I either: a) need new cleats, or b) need to chop off my big toe. Since I don't have the money to pay for either the cleats or the booze to give myself the courage for an amputation, I'll stop catching for a while. That should give me enough time to let it heal.
I'd love to be in the proper condition to throw at least one inning in the next challenge game. I've been working on a breaking ball for a while and I feel confident in my accuracy with it now. Even if I'm still having foot issues, I'd like to try my hand at pitching. Let's just hope my cleats hold up long enough.

I intended to write something to remind everybody of my superior prowess.

OK. We discussed things. Here are some logistics.
We are going to run two games. The first, will be the "better" players. Play it and manage to win (while still keeping the fun aspect that we had up at your place). The second will have "the others", with only fastballs (still pitched from the other team).
If you all usually start at 11:00, then we will have the 11/19 game 1 start at 12:00 (warm-up before that). The second game will start after that (around 3:00, I guess).
We have a great field to play at, Major League size (pitching at 62.5 feet, bases at 90, fence at 350 down the line). We do not curently have a lot of new baseballs or officials. We will work on getting those, but if you want to be assured of those two... you can help with that.
Directions from Oaktown.
880 South. (for 30+ miles)
280 North (to San Francisco) (for 3 miles)
Exit Wolfe Rd., make a left onto Wolfe off the freeway (for 2 miles)
Pass Phil Ln... then start looking for a church parking lot on your left.
Turn left into the church parking lot (if you reach Bollinger or Rainbow, then you went too far)
Walk through the gate, through the basketball courts, through the track, and onto the baseball field for some dope baseball.
Got that? Haha... maybe we should report this in a new topic...
