1-2-3 Strikes, who's out?

Post by Southpaw Slim »

I was watching Detroit face Chicago recently when an interesting situation arose. A relief pitcher came in with a 2-2 count, and a pinch-hitter came in to face him. On the next pitch, the batter struck out. The strikeout was awarded to the relief pitcher, whereas the strikeout counted against the batter who had been replaced.

Considering all possible counts (0-0, 0-1, 0-2, 1-0, 1-1, etc.), when does a relief pitcher get credit for a walk, strikeout, or fielded out? Furthermore, which counts would give the pinch-hitter credit for a walk or strikeout?

I was watching the same game, and the announcers answered all the questions you have posed. You apparently didn't hear what they said, or have forgotten. I unfortunately don't recall it. And it's not interesting enough to do the research for you and then tell you what's up. So, good luck.

I specifically remember seeing it, but not being able to hear what they were saying when explaining it nor being able to get you to repeat it to me... so thanks, I guess, for not answering my question?
