Ah, good to know about Oakland HS. I'll have to take a look at it & check it out, thanks for the heads up.
Baseball=Life wrote:aside from the 10/9 game, there's only 2 more DeFremery games scheduled for the rest of Season Two (11/20, 12/4), compared to 7 remaining games scheduled at the other, non-DeFremery fields.

So to all those that thought I was addicted to DeFremery, check out how I'm going out of my way to ensure we don't miss the Curt Flood and the Curt Flood live games.
Well now I've abandoned my old school DeFrem roots even further by changing one of the remaining DeFremery games to Golden Gate (the 11/20 game is now GG, not DeFremery). So, only one final DeFremery game in Season 2, the 12/4 game.

This thread needed to be brought back up. Park Baseball needs a backup field!!

So we've figured out that Golden Gate has a problem with the outfield always being wet....... Curt Flood is locked up......... We've been kicked out of Albany HS before........ Emery HS is too small ........ Tillman Park is too short to LF.....

I'm not sure whether other fields in this thread were actually thrown out of the running (St. Mary's? Willard MS?)

McConnell park looks very good. It's availability is unknown, however, and we need to have a 2nd backup park (besides Curt Flood and DeFremery).

It appears the top candidate for a backup field is Nichols Park in Richmond, near Richmond BART. It's location is better than the Caldecott field over by the Caldecott tunnel.
AntMoOAK wrote:Nichols Field is at 3300 MacDonald @ Harry Ells Place.
Accesible by 580, 80, Bus # 72, BART (.5 miles away) There is a MacDonalds, (2) 7-11s within 6 blocks of each other (go figure) and a number of taco trucks.

Although I listed Tillman at 240' to LF, that may be an error as it s kind of hard to measure down the LF line. when I played there, It is bigger than it appears. 240' to LF and then 310' to CF would mean a huge difference between LF and CF and of you look at the picture, that just isn't the case. II would keep it in mind and go view it for your self. You can't beat the ambience there. Caldecott or North Oakland Sports Field as it is now called is nice. A bitch to get to though if you don't have a car. There are two fields. The main field is used by North Oakland Little League and is there main field and will see plenty of action. There is a secondary field, but I suspect that it will be in use also alot for NOLL junior divisions.

In fact, the link below has a list of all the fields that NOLL and SOLL uses. There are fields listed here I didn't know existed.

http://www.nollsoll.com/noll/fields.asp
They will also list their schedules later on so we can see which field is in use when. This does not however include the Babe Ruth League. Little League and Babe Ruth are the two dominant leagues in Oakland. Little Leauge being a little more affluent and based mainly and Babe Ruth being more working class and in the flatlands. Babe Ruth play at fields like DeFremery, McConnell, Franklin, and others.
I don't know its name, but the field by Crown Beach in Alameda, at the intersection of Central and Constitution is a nice, big field. I don't know its availability, but we did play a little Saturday practice there over a year ago and it was available. This seems more convenient and centrally located than Richmond. I've suggested this before, but I don't remember anyone's reaction to this idea.

That's Washington Park, indeed a real sweet yard to play in. We could play there if we paid for a permit, but otherwise I am very pessimistic. I went there once after a game on a Sunday, and talked to the guys who were playing, and they said it was a very busy field, not likely to be free. That said I can try and find out from the Alameda parks department if it is booked. The only thing is, asking a question like that with a specific day and time range in mind, could well lead to one of those guys coming over to see if we were using it without a permit.

How much are permits? Is the field nice enoguh to warrent spending the money?

And, yes, Richmond is a bit far off, but I'd find a way to make it.

There are enoug fields so that a permit on our part is not required. Besides, a permit for an Alameda Park is like 75 bucks for one use. If you like Alameda, then look at Tillman as it is not in as much use. For free Oakland fields, look at Oakland High or McConnell.

Well holy shit, Antmo, you uncovered the Holy Grail of Oakland Baseball Field Lists!!!! Damn, there's a lot of fields on that list---> http://www.nollsoll.com/noll/fields.asp

So......
McConnell=good. Curt Flood=good. Nichols=next on list to try. Since Curt Flood is often inaccessible, and McConnell is used by that other team at times, we need to get a 3rd (non-DeFremery) field ready for consideration.

So, unless I hear back from the guy from that organized team who has info on McConnell, then we should probably try to play this Sunday at Nichols Park. Hopefully I'll get the go-ahead for us to use McConnell again, but, if not, then Nichols.

That's unless I hear from others that we should test out another field instead. (Oakland HS? St. Mary's? North Oakland Sports Field?)

So, Nichols this Sunday unless McConnell works out? Edit-McConnell in use until and including April 2nd.

i think McConnel is on the small side and if we play a non-live game there then there will be a cool bit of HRs not as much as Def but close as they are about the same size with McConnel being at most 20 feet bigger

mcconnell is marked as 280 down the line. def was 240ish.

edit: i think mcconnell is about the right size. It seems that CF is a little too big and (as we all know) def was too small.

Hey it looks like McConnell will be in use until and including April 2nd so we're going to try out Nicholls Park this Sunday.
