Lineup 2/19 Live Game

Post by Baseball=Life »

Well we have a unique situation this Sunday. As everyone knows we play free games year-round for anyone, on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Well this Sunday is going to be a rare exception to that. Instead, we're only going to have limited roster spots because we're going to play another team. It's just for this Sunday 2/19, back to normal all-access on Sunday 2/26. People not playing are still encouraged to show up and have fun watching and/or substituting as necessary. There will be a home plate umpire.

So I've been analyzing the stats to try to figure out what the best lineup would look like for this game. I'm going to contact people to let them know they should play once I've thought more about it. We will be playing with a 10 man lineup, so a DH will bat in addition to the pitcher batting. Anyway, check out some of these stats from all the past live games combined:

.545 - 6/11 - Chad C.
.500 - 7/14 - Dave L.
.500 - 5/10 - Will J.
.400 - 2/5 - Daniel R.
.400 - 2/5 - Ryan D.
.333 - 2/6 - Anthony M.
.316 - 6/19 - Nick W.
.313 - 5/16 - Scott L.
.313 - 5/16 - Andrew A.
.294 - 5/17 - Ahmer D.
.235 - 4/17 - Chris A.
.222 - 2/9 - Peter Ri.
.214 - 3/14 - Paul C.

less than 4 ABs: Pat, Eddie, Carlos, Michael P., Richard J.

Pitching stats were barely tracked, but we do know some info:

Top Pitchers:
Andrew A. - 10 1/3 IP, 21 H+BB+HBP = 2.033 WHIP
Ahmer D. - 10 1/3 IP, 17 H+BB+HBP = 1.65 WHIP
Daniel R. - 3 IP, 1 H+BB+HBP = 0.33 WHIP
Ryan D. - 3 IP, 4 H+BB+HBP = 1.33 WHIP
Will J. - 3 IP, 7 H+BB+HBP = 2.33 WHIP

(WHIP = walks+hits+hit by pitch per total innings pitched)

Other pitchers with either very few IP but good WHIP, or average WHIP:
Nick W. - 4.2 IP, 15 H+BB+HBP = 3.21 WHIP
Rob D. - 1 IP, 2 H+BB+HBP = 2.00 WHIP
Ken D. - 2 IP, 6 H+BB+HBP = 3.00 WHIP
Scott L. - 1.2 IP, 3 H+BB+HBP = 1.80 WHIP
Paul C. - 1.2 IP, 3 H+BB+HBP = 1.80 WHIP

I'm just throwing those out there (since I researched it and these totals aren't found anywhere else on the site).

well, seeing as that it's wednesday, and it doesn't appear anyone wants to touch this with less than a 10-foot pole, I'll take a stab at it. Sorry if anyone's feelings are hurt, but  not everyone can be on the list.

From what I've seen (and I know there are a lot of people that I haven't seen much of), our ideal defensive allignment would look something like this:

P- Andrew A
C- Kenyatte D
1B- Nick W
2B- Scott L
3B- Dave L
SS- Daniel R (pitcher)
LF- Will J (pitcher)
CF- Carlos E
RF- Ahmer D (pitcher)
DH- Chad C.

and would translate roughl into this offensively:

Scott
Daniel
Will
Chad
Carlos
Nick
Ahmer
Kenyatte
Dave
Andrew

reserves:
Chris A (1B, OF)
James G (IF)
Michael P (1B)
Rich B. (UTIL)
Richard J (PH)

This list doesn't consider players that I personally haven't seen much of, and assumes that Pat K, Peter L, Paul C and Anthony M will not attend.

p.s. I can't for the life of me figure out who Ryan D and Peter Li are.

I'd plug Nick in before Rich.

It appears you both have forgotten who Chad Caliendo is. Here's my suggested lineup:

Ken D. - C
Dave L. - 2B
David J. - 3B
Will J. - LF
Anthony M. - 1B
Chad C. - CF
Nick W. - RF
Ahmer D. - DH
Andrew A. - P
Scott L. - SS

This only works if David J. can be reached in time AND agrees to play. I'd like to thank everyone for considering me a choice for 1B, but we can't forget that Anthony is the best defensive first baseman we have. I know it looks weird, but I thought it would be good to have an extra-base hitter behind Anthony. Also, Scott would be great batting in front of Ken, and the lineup could be just as effective if Scott was at the top. Otherwise, here's a line-up we can also use.

Ken D. - C
Scott L. - SS
Will J. - LF
Chad C. - CF
Anthony M. - 1B
Nick W. - RF
Dave L. - 3B
Ryan D. - 2B
Ahmer D. - DH
Andrew A. - P

This follows a more traditional stance. (Speed/contact, speed/contact, contact/power, contact/power, power, contact, contact, contact, speed.) I may be putting myself a bit high in the lineup, but after batting behind Dave last time, I don't want to risk another HIDP-fest. Also, notice I left Paul out. It's not personal, but his plate discipline is a concern. However, they don't know that, and we could use it to our advantage late in the game.

Bench (Pat can't make it):
Daniel R. - RP, IF
Michael P. - 1B, OF
Brian C. - C
Paul C. - 1B
Peter L. - OF
Rob D. - IF
Rich B. - LF, SS

This is as much thought as I've put into the bench so far.
I intended to write something to remind everybody of my superior prowess.

Well, sod you then Nick you wanker!

Seriously, though, I agree completely with you. I do have serious problems reading the flight of the ball early. In our usual slow pitch games this is a non-issue, but in a live game, yes I am a strikeout liability.

Be that as it may, I cannot make it this Sunday anyway. I'm sure I mentioned it to you last Sunday, for some reason you didn't remember it...Can't think what that could be.

Busted, again. I'll just forget I ever brought it up, then. Sorry you can't be there, Paul. Here's one sentence without a comma.

Nick, do you have any reason to believe that Chad will play with us? I left him off my list intentionally, along with everyone else who has attended fewer than 5 games.

My line-up has been re-edited to make up for Paul's absense.

edit: i hereby express the same concerns about David J and Anthony M as I did about Chad C. There's no use in trying to plug people who almost certainly aren't going to show up into our line up.

I have already confirmed that Chad C. will be participating this Sunday.

Ahmer, on the other hand, I don't know... His email address became invalid as of last week, and I don't know how to reach him otherwise. I can't figure out which email in my massive list is Andrew's, or I'd ask him to tell Ahmer (I think they are cousins). As you can see from the stats, having Ahmer participate would be ideal.

I had initially wanted to show up as back up or support but have to work. See ya'll on the 26th. Give 'em heck DeFremery Park Baseball (we need a new nickname) and yes I like DeFremery in the name even if we don't play there much anymore.

Yeah, and DPB sounds better than OPB anyway.

After taking into account past performance, who will be available, etc., here's what I'm thinking...

Kenyatte D. - C
Will J. - LF
Chad C. - RF
Eddie R. - SS
Carlos E. - DH
Ryan D. - 2B
Daniel R. - P
Dave L. - 3B
Nick W. - 1B
Scott L. - CF

Just the starting lineup. As for pitching, I'm picturing something like this type of usage priority, depending on score throughout the game:

Daniel R.
Will J.
Eddie R.
Ryan D.
Ken D.
Nick W.
Scott L.
Rob D.

Again, just some initial thoughts...... any of the above people feel free to private message me to confirm that you'll play
