End of the year + Start to season 3 issues

Post by retep »

Hello! It is that time again when we start figuring out what to do!

As stated before, we should all be thinking about MYP and gold glove votes.

Also, for "opening day" of season 2 we had a BBQ, and it was fun (even with the falling trees). We could do something for the start to season 3. However, risk of rain and cold may damper support for such an event.

Thoughts, anyone?

Did I hear someone say "New Year's Eve Party"?

Hmmmmm well I think we should probably wait until a few weeks into Season 3, just to maximize turnout. Then again, that would be fun to do it New Years Eve. Naw, our idea of a celebration is a bit too tame for that day of the year, most likely.

Yeah, New Years won't work. Two weeks into the season better?

Party insite, or a BBQ like last time?

BBQ outside like last time after a game is probably the most realistic and easy-to-implement option. We could probably fairly easily drive to the DeFremery grills (or another park near Curt Flood) after finishing playing.

So, how about the week after the Super bowl?

That sounds like a good date to do the Season 2 Awards BBQ (Feb 12). I think that I should therefore go for the live game versus that team the week after that, ie Feb 19. What about location? What's a nearby grilling option to Curt Flood? Or is the easiest answer to actually bring our own grills to Curt Flood? I fear losing participants if we travel to another location after playing.

Reminder, for this event people should invite friends/family. Once we confirm that's the final date, we can start talking about who's bringing what.

Would Ken be a bitch if we played ONE GAME at Defermery, for in-part the grills there? I'll buy him an extra hot dog.

Even if we had a portable grill, the DeFrembery park is nice for the BBQ

It does make sense to play the awards ceremony game at defrem... if that does happen I may come and ump / keep score...

but if the 2/12 game is going to be at defrem, I would really like the 2/5 game to start at 10:30... cuz, as i rediscovered this week, going 2+ weeks without baseball leaves me terribly sore the monday after the next game

Something interesting to consider is that it was exactly this time last year that we were able to play at Raimondi. Check the old boxscores. So that perhaps represents an ideal in which we can play in a higher quality park, and then easily go over to good ole DeFrem for the party after the game.

Does this sound realistic to others? I haven't checked Raimondi for traffic in a long time.

i'm sure this goes without saying, but IMO playing somewhere else and then caravaning to defremery is much more attractive to me than playing the days game at defrem. I think the raimondi idea is a good one... raimondi is even walking distance from defrem
