Players of the Game for 12/04/05

Well before I go into who I think the player(s) of the game should be, I gotta say that I'm going to have to do the boxscore later tonight.

I just finished doing it, the complete boxscore, but my internet browser froze and all I had done was lost. So it is anathama to me to do it again right now, I'm too pissed off at my computer.

So please stay tuned for the 12/04/05 boxscore, I'll definitely do it tonight, once I'm over this computer rage. And I can't update any of the stats until the boxscore is done, of course.

I know we are a bunch of baseball playing jocks... but that sentence makes the offensive line of SW Mississippi look like Rhode scholars.

I was actually just so outraged I couldn't even spell anathema correctly. I'm starting to calm down, boxscore forthcoming.

i vote for ken for MVP

He didn't have a single at-bat in which he didn't get on base and score. That and his defensive performance was stellar! He made no errors!

It wasn't the spelling. I think an overly syllabic that would fit better is perhaps antipathetic.

Don't trip... I'm just sitting at work being a bored word nazi since I haven't been able to play enough to contend for any postseason accolades. Not trying to be a hater

You know, I enjoy a good word nazism more than your average person, but I think my syntax was actually valid. I think I wanted to convey something beyond antipathy's mere repugnance. Redoing the boxscore was even worse--it was something totally scorned, reviled, and yes even loathed by me. But, now that I've enjoyed the word nazism as well, I think I can stomach doing it.

Don't feel bad about the spelling, Scott. A quick review of anathama on Google Print shows it has apparently been spelled that way in many books and magazines.

I've always known anathama to mean a curse or someone being ostracized. After Scott maintained his wordiness, I looked it up and there is a secondary definition that can be construed as loathing. (Not quite but close enough).

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who finds it entertaining to talk about language. Ok, enough wordsmithin'.

Anyway, everybody put your napkin in your lap, say your prayers, and prepare to binge on an all-stat diet...

(and yes, I've been working on them nonstop for the last 4 hours, everyone shed a tear for me)

Ok, now for the original point of this thread, the Player(s) of the game for 12/04/05! I have to give it to David J. He kept innings short by being really solid at third base. It was like he had velcro on the glove and ball. Then of course he led the winning team in RBIs.

It's all about the defense, though, because Chris Adams and myself (3/4, 4 runs scored) also had good days at the plate. Chris (4/5) of course set a new single-game record for doubles with 4. That record had stood for probably 15 months. He had his 100th career OPB hit in the game as well.

On the losing team, Nick W. tore it up, going 5/6 with a big HR and 2 doubles.

It was a great, close game all-around, very fun.

And, to quell any further speculation, I want to make it clear that that was NOT the final DeFremery game. We will play there rarely, perhaps 10% of the time. Additionally, an aspect of DeFremery that cannot be overlooked is that, of all the fields in Oakland, it drains the best after rain. So there may be some days when we have to play there anyway due to conditions.

And, of course, the ability to not play at DeFremery is inextricably linked to our ability to find other adequate fields that are available.

I think my brain has been so numb from stat-crunching and data-entering that it's been hard for me to spend time doing the groundwork to finalize other field plans.

Huge respect and admiration to Scott for his work on the mammoth task of stat-keeping. I think very few of us realize how much work it actually is.

As for Goat of the Game, I definitely jeopardized any potential MVP votes with my 2 strikeouts and my choke grounder to 3rd base in the 9th. Gutted.

Just a reminder that there are alot of people who enjoy that park, and reminded of this Sunday. Just as we keep doing live games though many dislike them, no one person of duo makes any final decisions.

Except Scott.

But then, who here would trade for that right for all the BS he does so we can all play ball?
