Intentional Walks at DeFremery?

Play ball! Then talk about it. Or vice versa.

Should we allow intentional walks at DeFremery?

Intentional Walks at DeFremery?

Post by Baseball=Life »

There are occasions when letting someone go to first for free (an intentional walk) makes more sense than giving them a chance to crush an extra-base hit.

I think they should be allowed, but there should be limitations.

I don't think anyone would want to homer in their first two at bats and then get walked 5 times... that would suck (see my thread in MLB for my opinion on this tactic).

At the same time however, the IBB is a part of baseball and would add another bit of strategy to our game.

I suggest the following ground rules if we do decide to allow IBBs:

1. No player may receive more than 1 IBB per game
2. You may not IBB a player if there is no one on base
3. You may not IBB a player if there is a runner on first

IBB's at DeFremery

Post by Baseball=Life »

I agree, those are very resonable limitations to having IBB's at DeFremery.

Plus, since our games are always high-scoring, you would only really need to give the IBB maybe once in a game anyways, ie in the 9th when you really really had to avoid a batter. Early in the game you can afford to let the best hitters swing away because you know your team will have ample opportunity to come back.

We need to get Carlos into this forum, I'm sure he has an opinion on this.

I'm not really down for intentional walks since we're playing these games for fun and not necessarily for competition. I think that these 31 to 47 run games are just part of the fun, and if we were trying to enforce intentional walks, we wouldn't pitch to our own team.

I think the format that we have is just fine.

Who gets to decide when to walk the person?

I never understood the difference between the two... but then again... I am a nut job.
To me the competition is a very large part of the fun. I've been known to get very upset when I feel like someone on my team isn't giving 100% (case in point: Josh) and I wouldn't mind having the bat taken out of my hands every now and then... I might even get a kick out of the display of repect for my rEaL uLtImAtE pOwEr!1!1!1!

concensus of the defending team seems reasonable.

Yeah, no one is gonna give a IBB to a singles hitter like me. And if we limit it to one per game, that would be good.

But I don't wanna be counting OBP!

But how is someone going to walked? Tell them to go to first or 4 straight pitches.
play 2 win, but have plenty 2 lose.....

I think we'd just say "take first base."

Nick's non-sequiter reply

Post by Baseball=Life »

Did you mean to post that in another forum because it seems non-sequiter to me. Maybe I just can't follow your logic, Nick. (I've been fragging non-stop for a few hours, so it could be me.)

Another limitation to IBB's at DeFremery would be only 2 per team per game.

so....

Only 1 for a batter per game.

Only 2 for a team per game (not to the same batter).

No IBBs with bases empty.

No IBBs with only a man on 1st.

Well, it does seem to be losing so far, so the discussion may be for naught.

Nick was replying to Peter's message.

Ok, no one is gonna walk a singles-doubles hitter like me :)
