25 September Game

Post by AntMoOAK »

I did a little lookin' around... and it appears that Curt Flood will be open next week. The East Bay Warriors (and East Bay Wolverines) Pop Warner Teams sometimes play games there. I do not see any games scheduled there next week. The East Bay Warriors website is:

http://www.eastbaywarriors.org/

As an aside Raimondi was open at 3:30 Sunday and had not been in use earlier in the day. There was a big soccer jamboree on the adjacent fields (2 full, 2 practice) with no interference to the baseball field. The Oakland Dynamites (football) sometimes play there but again on the adjacent field. I personally think it would be fun to play a game (live or regular) at Raimondi. It is actually a very good field when it's not raining (as it was the last the time we tried to play there) it's actually better than Curt Flood.[/url]

Curt Flood: L: 274
C: 342
R: 240

Raimondi: L: 325
C: 342
R: 281

DeFremery L: 224
C: 314
R: 227

As verified by sign postings (Raimondi) and measured with the Google Earth mapping & measurement tool.

Looks like Sterling's homer is missing from the stats. Meaning he went for the cycle ?

Yeah, let's use Raimondi as the backup field if Curt Flood is in use. I could swing by there on my way to see if it is use. Or we could do it the other way around, if someone else lives close to Curt Flood and could check it one their way to Raimondi, as that would be a long way out of my way.

Hey I don't recall Sterling hitting a HR, I think you are mistaken. He was a HR short of hitting of the cycle.

Anyway, about the 'where to play next week' issue. You guys have good ideas to stay with Curt Flood, and use Raimondi as a backup. I'll be happy to be the person checking both fields early. I wonder if checking at 9:45 will be an adequate time to figure what to expect for the next few hours? Well, we'll just have to try.

When I send out the email about the game (and I already told some folks to look for this), I'm going to make more of an effort to emphasize the backup field contingency plan. I'm going to have a big "PRINT THIS OUT AND BRING WITH YOU TO THE GAME" at the top, and directions to Raimondi as the backup field. We should be able to roll with the punches fairly flawlessly.

The only issue will of course be if they're both in use, at which point we'll probably have to use DeFremery.

Because: Jones Pinto/Redwood Road is too small to CF and inaccessible, McConnell is in way too ghetto of a place, Poplar is too small, Franklin has the grates and unevenness in the outfield, etc., etc.

The only other fields I can think of with potential are Garfield (Foothill Blvd at 23rd Ave), which may have similar problems as Franklin, and then Arnerich Field in Alameda (which may have lots of organized usage, we'd have to get with Rob to find out availability).

Is there any possibility that the field at Laney College is accessible?

It could very easily not be, but it may be worth checking out. The location is great for those of us who BART, the field is (assumably) well kept and we know the dimentions (of the infield at least) will be correct.

What made me think of this is that I was up at CCC (Contra Costa College) the other day and I found that their field was accessible. If Laney is a possibility it could great!

Ken, I presume the CCC field wasn't adequate?

Yeah, what's up with Laney college access? Anyone know?

The CCC field was great... but it's in San Pablo... or Pinole... or one of those other cities north of Richmond.

That Laney field looks great, I hope it's accessible.

I was checking out the Eastbaywarriors.org site, and they have Curt Flood (for them it's called Fruitvale Elementary) scheduled through mid October. HOWEVER, they have it scheduled for SATURDAYS not SUNDAYS.

So I don't really understand why they were out there yesterday.... there counldn't have been rainouts to make up. Hmmmm

Well, hopefully they'll stick to their schedule (and most likely their permitted time slots) and we'll be in the clear for Curt Flood for Sundays.

I have a question... why can't we just use Defremery?

Hey Anthony,

Well, we've had some long debates about the shortcomings at DeFremery.

Check out this thread: http://gohlkusmaximus.com/parkbaseball/ ... .php?t=131

We compromised to play at DeFremery 37% of the time.

I am just saying, when in doubt of whether a field is available or not, it sounds to me like Defremery is pretty much always available. We should just always resort to that if plan A is not a certainty... and from the looks of it, it sounds iffy for Curt Flood.
