Jersey Ideas
There have been some plays where players have forgotten who's on which team. I've been thinking of this for a while, and I think it might be fun for us to get some "team jerseys" made. In fact, today I went out and bought some stencils and fabric paint. I'd like to get some white T-shirts I can dye, or perhaps paint some numbers onto, and we can either use them for jerseys or wear them over our shirts instead. So that leaves me with 2 questions:
1. Does everyone think it would be nice to have jerseys for home and away teams?
2. What colors would you like to see for both? I was thinking red/blue (red numbers on blue Tees) and vice versa, or yellow/green for home and green/white for away, since we do play in Oakland.
I also have stencils for letters if we want to personalize our jerseys. So, just give me a yes or no on the idea, and colors for numbers/shirts (away) and numbers/shirts (home). Also, any number you might want to wear.

I like the idea, and here are my thoughts:
I would like very different colors for each team. Maybe ahving red and gray and green and white.
Also, what sort of jerseys are you thinking of? Just shirts, or ones more like real baseball uniforms. I'd like to keep the costs as low as possible, just to keep the spirit of these games as "free" and whatnot.
Talk to Rich. He's told me he's had some ideas for this as well.
Where do you get numbers and stuff for jerseys? I've wanted to get my number on my shirt, but wasn't sure what to do.
Oh, and by the way, my number is 18. I here on out claim it.

great idea
contrast is good-
get down to West Coast Sports WAREHOUSE in San Leandro- they are having their twice yearly clearance sale. great deals-you could probably get basic baseball style T-shirt type jerseys really cheap (maybe $5 each?)
regulars could have their own and maybe have some backups for the occasional players

I should be able to get down there, probably on Friday. If someone else can go sooner, and see what they've got and the prices, that would be good. Otherwise I'll report back myself.
We should be careful here, not everyone is going to be favor of this. So far none of our ideas that involve a communal expenditure have come to fruition.
But, if we can get some stuff cheap enough, I know I won't mind chipping in an extra shirt or two for the good of the group. Probably one or two others will do the same.
At the very least, we could have enough shirts for one team, the other team being easier to recognize then even without their own kit.

Thanks for the tip, Michael. I was about to write earlier that I would not want to spend over $5 total for each shirt, so this might be the best idea. Especially if I can get shirts with contrasting sleeve colors. I can stencil the numbers on later if they're blank. Scott and I talked about this some. White and light blue are good ideas for shirt colors as they reflect a lot of sunlight and won't be too hot in the midday sun.
I'll try to check out West Coast after work today (as i want a LH catcher's mitt)

My Ideas for the jersey would be Orange (for the Giants fans) and Green (A's fans) and maybe a hint of Blue (For the Brewers fan) In classic baseball cursive font, or maybe a Red Sox style font. I'm not sure if pinstripes would look good or not, but I'm leaning that it's not. And nobody better take #22 because I'm claiming it.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
Since Rich has called #22, much to my chagrin, I will hereby claim #44. Not only is it McCovey's number, it is the international dialing code for the UK, good old Blighty. I did want 22 since it is Mike Matheney's number, plus it was Will Clark's number, and I play both catcher and 1st base. But, I like 44 almost as much.

It'll never get off the ground, too many of us will not want/be able to buy the shirts, and also we have too many people who only show up occasionally. Nothing wrong with that, mind, but it does make it hard to justify requiring them to buy one. Plus, people will forget, lose it, etc.
We are a ragtag bunch, and should accept that!

And since 3 people (myself included) are interested in the number 22, this will surely be interesting if we try to implement the idea. Since 22 is called, I can take #2 even though it belongs to (ugh) Jeter.
