Scott : 15 Day DL

Post by Baseball=Life »

Hey, I'm going to go on the 15-Day DL, with the possibility I'll be transferred to the 60-Day DL later this week, pending X-Ray results. Hopefully this will not be necessary, I'm itching to be out there... If this was a hand, foot, leg, arm, shoulder, etc, type of thing I'd play through it, but this is the more vulnerable torso/ribcage area. More info later this week.

Hey, here's what happened.

I was practicing last Thursday, playing SS. There was a short infield pop-up that was going to land behind the mound. With no pitcher to make the play, I ran in to make the catch from SS. I went into a slide (like at a base, feet first), with my glove outstretched for the catch. The ball hit my glove, but bounced out and managed to roll to the ground, right where my upper torso then landed. So, I basically did a major bellyflop on top of the baseball, except I landed on my back, not my chest/belly. It knocked the wind out of me and also just hurt generally. I sat out about 20 minutes, then went back to play, pitching some simulated innings against Ken & Flynn. I left to go to work, and took some advil. Everything seemed basically ok until Friday night, when I noticed the pain was becoming severe.... All sorts of involuntary actions like coughing, sneezing, hiccups, laughing, etc., trigger the intense pain, because it's one of my ribs, right next to my lungs. So I sat out for Sunday's game, and I just got back from getting X-Rays done, results will be evident later today hopefully. Ideally, it's just a badly bruised rib, but there's definitely a chance that there's a small fracture. I had actually already planned to sit out of the next game (Aug 7) because I have tickets to see the Rocket mow down the Giants on that day. So this injury is just an additional reason to hold off playing again until August 14 at the earliest.

It sucks having an injury for which the pain response is linked to so many involuntary and/or semi-involuntary actions. Like I rose up to turn off my alarmclock and, of course, collapsed in agony halfway to the alarmclock. My sleeping brain forgot to proceed in a restrained manner to turn off the alarm, and I paid the price.

Hurting your back sucks... I fell down and couldn't get up for like 20 minutes, like a fucking turtle.

Hey guys.....

So the X-Ray results came back, and I do have a broken rib. I've been told that I cannot play until August 21st. I may or may not come out to do scorekeeping. This is frustrating!!!!

Hey I should clarify it's a fracture, not a more severe break. So I'll play the 21st pretty much for sure.
