Wood Bats

Play ball! Then talk about it. Or vice versa.

Would you be interested in going with wood bats only?

Yes, sounds good

Wood Bats

Post by Pat K »

I am new and do not know if this has ever come up, but has there ever been a discussion or talk of making the league Au Natural (wood bats only)?

I don't think that is fair to those who have invested in metal bats. But not a bad thought.

I like the idea of wood bats... and while I don't mind buying myself a coupla bats, I would not want to use someone else's bat for fear that I'd break it.. although we don't really pitch fast enough for that. So either way.. I'm down

I've never used a wood bat before, unless you count video games, or middle school pinata parties...

I'm either or, is there a reason for this suggestion?

As far as investing in a bat, you can get a wooden bat like the one I use for only $20 at Copeland's. I actually had a talk with Scott a couple weeks back about how I feel like I'm being untrue to myself if I use a metal bat. I think people should use what they're comfortable with since it's all about having fun, but I wouldn't be opposed to the idea.

Maybe we could allow only wood bats at Defremery games? Cut the power numbers back down to size?

Not a bad idea

That's not a bad idea (wood bats only at DeFremery). And wooden bats are really cheap, so those without wooden bats could acquire ones fairly easily.

Hey, that's not just not a bad idea, it's a really good idea. We all share bats to a certain extent anyway, so there isn't a lot of pressure on people to buy a wood bat.

Don't make any unnessary rules...Let guys bring and use whatever they want. This is a pickup game--Not a league.

I think it would cut down some of the power numbers at Defremery. I just bought a wood bat and would not mind sharing(not against live pitching)

I agree

I agree about trying Wood Bats Only At DeFremery.

I think it would make DeFremery a little bit more playable. It's worth a try.

Wood bats are incredibly cheap, like $20.

Let's discuss this further and perhaps try it at the next DeFremery game, June 5th.

The rule should definitely be applied, if at all, to the "power hitters" first and foremost. An easy, if arbitrary way to decide who they are: if you've hit it out of Defremery before, you're one of them. I don't think we should insist on it for any player, though.

Maybe a "wood bats recommended" policy... Rob brought up a good point.

Wood Bats

Post by Rich B. »

I think that if we're playing a small field like DeFremery wood bats should be used for safety purposes. But I'm not opposed to metal bats at a field like Curt Flood, or Ramondi.
