Practice field

Post by TheLegend »

As of approximately 5:15 wednesday evening San Pablo Park, Golden Gate Field, Grove Park and Willard field appeared to all be in use.

The only field I could find in the area that appeared to be open was Bushrod. Which luckily enough is a pretty good field!

I know this is VERY late notice for tonight, but I'm thinking Bushrod should probably be our regular practice location.

I say we meet at SPP tonight as planned, but that we be prepared to jump around a bit if neccisary.

San Pablo Park ended up working beautifully last night, the people who were there when I rode by at 5 were leaving around 6 and the lights came on when it was on the verge of being too dark to continue playing.

I think practicing one evening a week (Wednesday) at San Pablo Park and using Bushrod as a backup field may be a good plan for those of us who are able to get together for practices in the evening.

On top of that, I think we should have one afternoon practice (I'd prefer friday) if there are enough people who can make it.

Note: this has no effect on my current plans to practice tonight at bushrod...

Friday afternoon

Post by Baseball=Life »

Hey, I'm somewhat down for the Friday afternoon practices. I just can't pitch or my arm won't be ready for the Sunday games. But fielding, catching, batting........ all that I can do.

And, like stated previously, I can't do evening practices because that's when I work.

Spread the word, Sunday's the double header, 1st game live with real pitching at 11:00 gametime. 2nd game regular (our usual style) at 2:30.

If we have a critical mass at 2:30 and the prior game hasn't ended yet, we might consider suspending the live game to get the 2nd game going, unless it's a close game of course.

I'd also consider a Friday afternoon practice, from time to time, when I get enough hours of work in the rest of the week. Let me know.

Also, has anyone been to:

The Dugout Batting Range
(510) 724-8290
1736 San Pablo Ave
Pinole, CA 94564

They have OUTDOOR cages and are open 3 pm to 8 pm during the week, 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday, and 12 pm to 5 pm on Sunday (irrelevant).

It costs $1 for 10 pitches, $13 for 15 minutes, $24 for 30 minutes, and
$40 for one hour. They have 3 speeds, 35, 55, and 65-75.

Sounds worth checking out on a Saturday or a late Friday afternoon...

OK, so I'm looking for two or three others to split an hour of cage time with. This place sounds good, I especially like the three speeds - most places seem to only have two.
For those who live in Berkeley and Oakland, if you can get to somewhere close to an exit off the freeway, I am happy to pick you up on the way up there.
Thursday night or Friday night, getting there around 7 for the 7-8 slot works for me, or pretty much any time Saturday. Plans may be subject to revision if they are booked up, of course.
Any takers?

Paul, I'd be game for Saturday. What exit is convenient to you that's near downtown Oakland (or what BART station is most convenient for you)?

Lake Merritt is closest, West Oakland is fine also. From both of these it's easy to get on the freeway. The "Downtown Oakland" station, I'd rather avoid, as traffic there is a headache.
Saturday sounds good, if we get one more person I'll call them and reserve a cage. At that point others could jump on the wagon, so to speak, with a time decided.

OK, I just called them to check availability on Saturday, and they are pretty much wide open, since most teams are having their games then.
I prefer late morning, when it'll be warm but not yet hot (to me, as a limey, anyway).
How does 11-12 sound? That would mean a pickup at Lake Merritt somewhere around 10:30.

Any chance of pushing it back one hour? Not to be picky, but I work during the week 1 pm to 10 pm and I would have to specifically get up earlier than usual (i.e. set an alarm), which tends to suck.
