Since I'm in the mood for debating...

Post by TheLegend »

When it comes to discussions that become debates there are two things that everyone needs to know about me:

1. I'm a very passionate debater. I don't bother debating very much unless it's an issue I really care about, so when I do enter a debate, know that I'm going to fight it out to the bitter end! This leads a lot of people to think that I'm stubborn (because whenever I debate, it's almost impossible to change my mind), but that's actually a byproduct of the fact that I only debate if it's an issue I have strong feelings about.

2. I'm absolutely tactless. Even when writing, I rarely bite my tongue and with occasionally say fairly harsh things in a fairly harsh manner because I think they are things that need to be said and it can take a long time for me to think of "nice ways" of saying them.

With those things said I want everyone to know that I don't hold grudges, and don't have hard feelings for any of you (even if it seems like I do) no matter how many times we're on opposite sides of a debate.

So, uh... I think that was kinda an apology for anything that I have said or will say that sound harsh or are harsh. I don't mean anything by it (except of course that I'm right and you're wrong  )

That sums me up for the most part as well.

Though I write on & on, seemingly endlessly, it's because I think dialogue between parties is what creates the best solutions.

For instance, I love "being wrong" about something. When someone can show me the way things really are, how how they really should be, that make me better off. When you are shown to be wrong, you have added value to yourself.

So I don't mind at all when people question my analysis, in fact I welcome it.

A given, however, is that all parties should have a certain willingness to be open to the fact that, who knows, someone my bring something up you hadn't thought of! So be firm and persuasive in your viewpoint, but always be ready to add value to your worldview if someone does manage to kick down some knowledge on a subject... grab onto that stuff, don't duck it! It's good for you!

I get into bad situations, where I'll say things I may not agree with, just to get the idea out there. I think this is an important part of the process. I'll also say things that maybe aren't the best consructed arguments, or make the most sense, for similar reasons (and that, dispite the number of posts I have, I am a busy guy, and need to move on!)

But I love how active the forums have been the last day or so! WOO!

That's a good thing, Scott, since it happens most of the time anyway. ;)
I intended to write something to remind everybody of my superior prowess.
