Should we have designated teams or play like we are?

Play ball! Then talk about it. Or vice versa.

Should We Designate Teams, Pick at Baseball Field, or Designate Teams Monthly Then Switch Them Up?

Should we have designated teams or play like we are?

Post by BostonMike »

Hey it's Mike, just want to see if you guys like the idea of designating teams, picking them on the field, or designating teams and switching them up monthly. You guys have probably already thought of this, but I just want to see how many people like the idea. I for one would like to designate teams monthly, it would add a certain challenge to each team and probably add more bragging and shit talking. Maybe even team names? <- Maybe on that one.

Same Team for a Month

Post by Baseball=Life »

I'd be down to have a team remain intact for 4 games, ie a month. I think you're right that would increase the shit-talking, bragging, and overall Forum involvement.

Of course, if we determined the teams weren't balanced, we'd have to ditch the idea. But I'm confident we could come up with some good teams, we seem to have 1-run, very very close games like 90% of the time.

And if we did do that we would have to make sure everyone on that team would come the next week, plus what if new people came, stuff i just thought of now before i wprte that.

If we do end up designating team we should even them up based on stats not size and all that shit. I mean attributes are one thing, but just cause a skinny kid can't hit homeruns, doesn't mean he aint a fast runner

Please replace "skinny kid" with "Daniel". I know that's what you were thinking. 8)

Close Games, Balanced Teams

Post by Baseball=Life »

It's amazing our games are always so close. It seems like, whenever one of the big power guys has an off-day, one of the other players has a great day and offsets it. So the teams & games remain balanced and close, despite fluctuations of all players' performance.

I think the key, as mentioned above, would be ensuring that everyone showed up that was on your team, and dealing with spare people who came that weren't on teams. How to deal with that?

And, if we did try this designated teams thing, what would those teams be???

What would be the best two balanced teams? Should we just take one of our past lineups from close games?

I propose that we take last Sunday's Linup, and try this out this next week.

If some people don't show... well, let's jump off that bridge when we get there.

Actually the skinny kid I was talking about was me, i wasn't even thinking. But there are some skinny kids who can hit the ball, I was just pointing out the fact that I can't hit the ball 325 feet but I sure can screw when I want to. How about a different lineup spot, have I proved myself yet? :D

Maybe someone should post a lineup and we vote on it to make sure if it's fair or not.

just want to make sure that this wouldn't mean that we're sending away the people who didn't make it last week / elected to play every other game instead of playing weekly.

I'd play them again

Post by Baseball=Life »

I'd play them again, that was a great game!

I should mention, though, there's a 25% chance I won't be able to play Sunday, I have a lingering forearm injury from a collision at 2nd base when I got in the pickle. My arm is all swollen up & everything. Hopefully it will be OK by Sun., 'cause I definitely want to play!

Of course, the odds of specifically those people showing up this Sun. is pretty small, for instance right now Manuel is browsing the Forums, maybe he's going to show up, and that would throw off these particular proposed teams.

By the way, Manny, if you read this... I'm not trying to say don't show up.... definitely do come if you want!!!!

People who missed last week's game are included. Say, maybe Manny comes next week: I think that Ken's team should get him, since they lost. At the time of each game, we can decide how to add people to the rosters of teams (kinda like what we do once a game is started).

Does that answer your concer, Ken?
