We have to wait and see how it goes with a static umpire, but this sounds interesting.
Don't forget, the strike zone will be slightly expanded with a static ump, like an extra couple of inches. Also, I personally plan to give an additional inch at 2-0, to make 3 total, and another at 3-0 for 4 total. So if you're on 3-0, you better swing if it is close.
I'm sure the pitchers will not try and abuse this expansion by deliberately getting to 3-0 and then throwing hard-to-hit, but close enough to be given a strike kind of junk. Anyone who tried that would be foolish, as none of us have sufficient accuracy (yet?).

I'm glad you put up that craigslist post. I've been looking for a place to play baseball for about 5 months now. All I could ever find was semi-pro leagues; and I definitely should not be putting a "pro" anywhere in front of my name. But I do love baseball and I miss playing, so I'm looking forward to coming out on sunday.

Hey Tony,
Cool, we look forward to your participation. I should let you know, however, that the field we're playing on this Sunday is not our normal field.
It's the field we used to play all our games on when I first started the Oakland Park Baseball league. We don't use it very much now because it is too small, both the outfield distances and the infield size itself. We still have had some very fun games there, in my opinion, and that's why we still play there every now and then.
Anyway, I just don't want you to get the impression this Sunday that that's what our usual field size is, because it isn't. We usually play on larger fields.

PS: And don't forget to check the website (www.parkbaseball.cjb.net) at 9:30 Sunday morning to determine whether or not the field is playable.

Hey all. I'm looking forward to playing this Sunday. It will be my first live pitch baseball. I'm looking forward to striking the other team out. I think it would be fair if you give the batters I'm facing a 2 - 0 count instead of a 0-1 count. Ok that's a little trash talk. I do know I'm accurate and can even locate my pitches. So if you up to facing some heat and a nasty curve ask Scott to be on the other team. I'll see you all out there Sunday. It's been a blast so far and I can't wait to play live.
