Not anything like English batter, though! It's cornmeal batter like real American fish & chips. If you want English style, you should go to Jay's just off of 580 in Hayward. That is the best fish & chips place in the Bay Area I've been to so far, and I'm a fan of English style.

Are you talking about the place off of 580 on Foothill (near Taco Bell, Caspers, Walgreen's) ? I've always driven passed that place and wondered if they were any good. The only English style fish and chip place that I ever knew of was H. Salt Vinegar's (fast food style :( ) If I remember, the Hayward Fishery has a batter style and is actually pretty good. But is not a true English style Fish and Chip place

Paul: if you find a real UK-style fish and chips place, let me know: I've alwasy wanted the real thing.

But I'm French, so going to UK is outta the question :wink:
