here's a pic of St. Mary's. I'm gonna ride by there tonight and see if it's accessible.
====
while browsing Alameda on terraserver-usa.com I found this location.

I don't know what it is or if it's ever in use, or ever where it is (perhaps someone more familiar with Alameda could identify and and directions to it) but what I do know is it has two baseball fields AND two softball fields (if we're unlucky enough to be the third or fourth group looking to play ball.

Anyone have any info about this place?

It seems like a safe bet. That is if someone knows or can figure out where this is and how to get there.
====

here's another nice looking location that I can't identify. It seems to be in south berkeley or north oakland (is this Emery?) What I've been doing is just zooming out to see all of Berkeley and then zooming in on any field that looks interesting.

This is a middle school on Otis Dr. I think Wood M.S. the park is called Rittler Park. The two fields are little kid sized > 200ft. and the big field w/ no fence is used for little girls soccer on the weekends.

Yeah, this place is ruled out since it has no fence. Rob C knows all the fields in Alameda very well. Since he doesn't seem to visit the forum any more,
I'll give him a call.

Rittler Park, the place with the two little fields and the two baseball fields sort of joined together. Well, the baseball field(s) has no fence. The other two are too small, aren't they?

Are you sure these fields don't have fences? When looking at the aerials I see a yellow line running across the edge of the outfields which suggests to me that there are fences there (and well kept ones at that).

edit: I just looked at the aerial's again and unless the fences have been torn down in the last year, I'm almost certain that these fields would be suitable.

About St. Mary's: I decided against riding by there as A. it's very likely locked up (as it's a private school) and B. It may be a bit out of the way for all you Oaklanders.
If this location is still in the running later in the week I'll happily go by and check it out.

can anyone recognize/identify this location? It looks nice. It's in Oakland roughly 2/3 of a mile northeast of the coliseum (as the bird flies).

According to GoogleMaps, that is Greenman field. Southwest of it is Coliseum Gardens, which would be cool to play in, although I'm not sure the infield is bigger than DF.
And as far as Rittler Field goes, the large field has no fence. The two smaller ones next to it do have fences, but are too small. The distance from home plate to the pitcher's rubber is 45', so it is pretty much DF size.
I do live nearby, you know.
Anthony has raised several good prospects, we need to check them out. After the game on Sunday we already told everyone there that the game on 10/16 would be at Emery, so we have to stick to that. If we find we cannot get in, isn't Golden Gate park fairly close, and Anthony seems confident that it's not in use weekends.

Greenman field is a little league field next to the projects . The big solitary field (on what used to be a scrap metal place) in the lower left of the main fields is no bigger than DeFremery with no tall fences (10ft tall fences maybe). The good looking field is little league but there are three fields facing each other but with no fence

The big field at Rittler does not have a fence. If you ever driven from South Shore in Alameda on Otis Dr., no doubt you've noticed this field and basketball courts.

I understand now about ritter. I originally thought that the fields with the grass infields were the larger ones (I guess I was tired :oops: )

How about Willard MS in south berkeley. I know it's usually in use in the summer, but now that baseball season is over we may be able to play there.
===

There seem to be a handful of nice fields on Alameda's south shore.

===

There's a good looking field on S. 34th and Park in Oakland (very close to 580)

GOLDEN GATE field is the place for this Sun 10/16

Post by Baseball=Life »

So here's the details for FREE BASEBALL this Sunday 10/16.

Game Time is 11:00, warm-up at 10:30.

Make sure you show up on time so you can get a spot on one of the teams. Only the first 20 people can play, so be prompt!* Rosters fill up quick!! Come at 10:30 AM !

[This is a non-live game, by the way. Next two games (10/23 & 10/30) are both "live" (with real pitching). See calendar on website: www.parkbaseball.cjb.net]

NUMBER ONE: Everyone needs to print out, fill out completely, and bring their waiver with them to the game on Sunday. I sent out a seperate email with the waiver form attached to it. What the hell, I'll attach it to this email too in case you deleted it already. If you don't have a printer, I'll have extra copies available to fill out on Sunday, just make sure to have your health insurance information, and emergency contact information with you so you can complete the form.

NUMBER TWO: Check the Field Status Sunday morning at 9:30 AM. Use the website for this (www.parkbaseball.cjb.net) or call the Hotline: 510 835 7694. Go to the correct field. I don't forsee having any problems using the field listed below. [WEBSITE & HOTLINE UPDATED SUN 9:30 AM]

NUMBER THREE: We are playing on Golden Gate field at the Golden Gate Recreation Center.

Golden Gate field is in NORTH OAKLAND on SAN PABLO AVE. You can look up directions to 6117 San Pablo Ave, Oakland---that will take you right to it. It's in between 62nd and 63rd on San Pablo Ave.

DIRECTIONS: Take the ASHBY exit off of Highway 80. Go RIGHT onto SAN PABLO AVE. Once you pass 64th ST, start looking for the field on the LEFT side of the street. It's across from Alaska Gas Station, which is at 62nd and San Pablo Ave. Park on the street, or look for parking on one of the side streets nearby.

I liked Golden Gate, to me it is a lot like Curt Flood but without the weird right field shape and slope. Home runs are hittable but will not be frequent, the fences being good and tall all around and at a good distance. The lack of a grass infield is maybe something you could point to as a disadvantage compared to CF, and that may be more and more of a concern later on when we enter the rainy season, but it does seem to be much less used, which is arguably more important.
Definitely our best backup location, I think, at the very least.
Also, I want to add that I think the stats from the second game should be counted. I don't think the conditions were much different, and I don't think you should invoke the rule about too few complete innings having been played, as we had already played a full game before!
