Anyone have any hints as to what would be a good home field for (at least) our live games. Nichol, isn't a great choice for these games because of the low quality of the mound and the conflict with the soccer players. I imagine that Raimondi or Cerrito Vista will be in use as often as they aren't and, as I understand it, we can't go back to Curt Flood until further notice.
According to Google Earth. Richmond High School has a pretty nice facility. I have no idea if it's open to the public or easily accessible on weekends.
I'll give Homer another call and see what his situation is. Last I knew, he was still trying to get his job back at the Oakland Parks and Rec after returning from Australia.
I intended to write something to remind everybody of my superior prowess.
The Kennedy High School field (off of Potrero in Richmond) is, at the very least, preferable to Nichol in every way, and, from what I've heard (haven't checked myself, but others have) it's accessible and unused on weekends.
well... it's downright unacceptable for live games, but I've always thought that Nichol was a crap field... now that the fence in right has been removed (not that that affects me much) I think it's time for us to move on. IMO, Kennedy is just a better field and, from what i've heard, is available on weekends.
The course of action that I had in mind was to play at nichol this week since there were a lot of new players last week and I told them tentatively that that's what we were going to be doing, then check out Kennedy for next week's live game and if it works out, then take it from there.
There are about 5 or so good public fields in Alameda for live games, three of which are used by the local high schools during their seasons. The two that are usually open are Lincoln Park (Alameda High's home field) and Upper Washington Park (St. Joseph ND high's home field). They both have great mounds, although I prefer the mound at Lincoln. There is ample parking at both.
victor, i was under the impression that the fields of alameda were unusable. because they are permit use only and people actually care. but i am all for playing in alameda as thats were i work
