Wood Bats

Play ball! Then talk about it. Or vice versa.

Would you be interested in going with wood bats only?

really? it doesn't seem to me that any type of concensus has been clearly identified.

I just meant that virtually nothing has come of it, which is, you know, okay. :)

Ken it looks like there is no consensus. Which I guess means that absolutly nothing comes of this.

I think it is clear that many people support the idea, and some do not. As one of those who does support it, I will be using a wood bat at Defremery. But, I'm not going to do anything to pressure others into doing the same.
I hit some of my HRs with the old "fungo" bat anyway, so I'm not worried that much about it affecting my stats.

how much is quality lumber? it sounds like Paul got his stick personalized- which is what I would like to do if I went out and got my own... but then again I'm poor, so maybe that wouldn't be the world's best idea.

There are lots of good bats sold on ebay, just yesterday I saw a genuine pro-stock Slugger, my favorite profile, the 34" 110, go unsold with no bids. Starting bid was only $19.95, and would have won that auction. Shipping is usually in the region of $10-15, in this case is was $10.
Make sure your lumber is at least marked with "125" if its a Slugger, that is the above average grade. Pro-stock is 150, but only Slugger uses the numbers, for the others you have to rely on the description burned onto the bat. Note that "professional profile" or "professional model" doesn't really mean jack, it must use the words stock, timber or grade to be describing the wood itself. There are even a few MLB-grade bats sold, unused or with just one or two hits on them.
I just got a pair of $40 gloves for $15, inc shipping, and a $35 Underarmour shirt for $13.50.

keep your eyes peeled for non-synthetic baseballs when you're trolling Ebay. I'd definitely help pay for some if you spotted a good deal.

I don't use Ebay often (ok, I've never used it) so I figure the more eyes looking out for good non-synthetic baseball deals, the more likely we'll find one.

Keep me posted, or just make the purchase and I'll pay you for half (or more if you really want me to).

At Willie Mays Park (SBC), they can make you a good wood bat on the sport, and I think they can like drill your name into it. Not asking too much either, like $30. Might get that one day if my new job ever pays me.

I hereby officially suggest that anyone who has ever hit a homerun be required to use a wood bat at defremery

Let's keep it to an official suggestion, not a requirement. Otherwise we're going to end up having to enforce it, and I don't think we want to add any (more) confrontation to our games.
I used wood all day last Sunday (apart from my last AB when we were, what, 5 runs down or something, in the bottom of the ninth) and my only problem was that I didn't much like any of the bats that were there. Don't like thin handles. Rich has a 110 which I do like, but dammit he wasn't there!

I'm not spending money on a wood bat I like, since I already have a great bat for me. If someone wants to buy it for me, that's ok, but untill then I'm sticking with what I have.

The massive number of runs yesterday was more due to the equal numbers of errors.
