Fields (live)
peter, alameda is no further from bart than curt flood is.
i bike or bart to pappo 5 days a week and it take between 30 to 45 mins
and peter on a more personal note you still live on university? if you do, you can just get on the 51 and it will take you like 4 blocks from the fields

So long, and thanks for all the fish. - Douglas Adams
Look, I'm not worried about me--I have an AC bus pass and will take the 51, as slow as it is. But we do have players from Richmond and I want to help find the best place possible. Clearly, the field we can play on becomes the best field possible, but since we have options, lets look at them
It is important that Alemeda also feels remote to a lot of people, so it may not be the best for outreach and turnout.
But, again, if it becomes the best option then woohoo!

FOR SURE we need some strong thinking outside of the box about new fields to play on. We need to keep in mind several things: field size, infield size, accessibility, location.
(rant) Fuck this society that won't let us set up wholesome fun for free for people. It's not like we're trying to pawn off crack to underage kids or some shit. (Well, I stopped doing that a few weeks ago, at least). (/rant)

Upper Washington (SJND)- LF is only 245 feet with a tall fence like Deferemery... My very first high school at bat (first pitch) against SJND was a homer over that fence (I got scolded because I was given a "take" sign)... so I doubt it could hold us grown folks. Also parking is atrocious and those waiting to play softball on the lower fields often practice on the upper field. Washington Park is probably the most crowded, most used park in the greater Oakland eastbay. Krusi is a 4 way field not suitable for us. (remember Rob... that's where they play softball). When I use to play softball with Rob, the one field I always found open is Tillman Park on Bay Farm Island. The # 50 bus does travel there from both Fruitvale BART and Coliseum BART. It may seem daunting to get to but it really isnt. Also Godfrey Park in Alameda is big... but I don't know the availability. I've always wondered what's wrong with Franklin Field at 11th and Foothill ? The outfield is no worse if not better than King is for sure. Also Oakland High (Park and MacArthur) is NEVER in use on Sundays- accessible and new. The outfield is turf however. I also wonder if Carter Field (Tech's new field) 45th and Tele. is open on Sundays. Times change, but as a kid we used to also play on the weekends at Piedmont High.
