REMINDER: on registering for the forum

I hear there are some new people, so for a limited time I have now opened registration up to anyone.

You can now sign up for the site without me doing anything.

If spammers become a serious problem again, I'll close registration, so register NOW if you want to.

I also gave Peter the power to delete spammers, so don't piss him off.

It's no problem for me to open up registration for new people. I just have to keep registration closed at all times except when I'm adding someone.

The reason is that spammers join the forum and post spam links, which tends to make the whole thing horrible for everyone (some of the people who have been on here a while can attest to that).

It also sucks for me having to go through and delete spam accounts one by one. Funny thing is that, in the last 8 hours (when I created a new user but then forgot to close registration until just now), 3 spam accounts were created that I just had to delete. So, the problem is still real, and this was the best workaround I could think of, short of starting the forum all over again. Actually there's a new version of PHPBB I should probably install... that might help as well.

Note: this is not meant to make anyone feel bad... it's just a reality of the Internet. Really no big deal except that you have to ask me to create an account; you can't just create it yourself.

Anyway, baseball!

I might actually come out and play again at some point, but I've been saying that for a while. I just have to get back in the habit.
