In the interest of weekly double headers, I would like to encourage people to get to the park by 10:30 so we can get the first game started by 11. Also, As I've mentioned before, we need to use as little time as possible between innings and at-bats by a) hustling in and out of the dug outs, b) having the offense help the catcher put his gear on (unless there are two sets of gear, in which case the catcher should have his gear on already) and c) making sure the on deck batter is ready to bat (i.e. not pitching or doing anything else besides putting batting gloves on and warming up).
There's no reason that we should be able to play 15 ( if not 18 ) innings between 11 and 5.

oh... so you guys just wanna ignore this topic, huh? well, i see how it is...
bitches!
by the way... what time should we be getting there this sunday (BBQ)? Are we going to try and play a double header still? As much as i like the idea of a bbq... the more i think about it... the more i think I would rather just play baseball. maybe that's just me... then there's the added bonus (
) of playing at defremery... oof... this sunday is getting less and less promising by the moment
rant over!

Well, a bit late to try and talk about when we're gonna play/eat/etc. We had this discussion, and not many people took part. Too bad, cuz no one spoke up and said they didn't wanna do this.
Show up, Ken, you may win an award, voted on by your peers! (by the way, everyone e-mail Scott with their votes)

We obviously pushed the date back from July 3rd, cuz Scott was outta town. We can try and play if u want, but may be hard on a full stomach.

Hey - Scott here,
Arrive this Sunday at DeFremery at 10:30 to play at 11:00. (Be prompt, as Ken says.)
Afterward, (estimated at 2:30 or 3:00), we will then chow down / BBQ / grill / drink / etc, plus announce the MVP & gold glove winners.
If time (and sobriety) allows, we'll play more after we do the BBQ---This is unlikely, however. So: do these things:
# 1 Bring friends & family to the game and the bbq afterward.
# 2 EMAIL me your votes for the awards (see career stats at parkbaseball.cjb.net to help you decide. Give me 3 names for MVP, 3 names for infield gold glove, and 2 names for outfield gold glove.). My email is Dollashedr@aol.com. Or call 510 681 4373.
# 3 Check this thread to see what potluck items other people are bringing:

# 4 Post on that thread what you're bringing.

Our rules page says:
I think defensive preference should be given to the people who arrive on time, and yes, that means that the 10th person on the team should DH 9 times if they arrived after 11am. Note that if 20 people arrive before 11am, then the standard rotation method should be used.
I think that no player should be forced to leave the field to allow a person who arrived late to field for them.
I know a lot of people are going to say that it's unfair to turn people away or ask them to DH the whole game, but allowing stragglers to play as if they had arrived on time is not only unfair to the players who do arrive on time, but also promotes the image that arriving on time is not important, which is an image that I am strongly against promoting.
I think the game should be capped at 20 players even if 20 players arrive before the advertized start time (i.e. if someone arrives at 10:45 and there are 20 people already there they should not be allowed to play).Arriving Late To Games
-Games are to start at 12:00 P.M., with pre-game warm-ups starting at 11:30 A.M.
-Players who arrive after 12:00 P.M. may not receive a spot on a team's roster. Rosters will be capped at 9 players!
-Players who arrive after 12:00 P.M. that are placed on a team lose preferance over their choice of defensive position.
-Players who arrive after the first pitch that are placed on a team will bat at the bottom or the order.
-Unless there are less than 7 players on either team, the rosters will be capped at the game's current number of players at the end of the 4th inning.
-A player who will be arriving late may call (510) 681-4373 to check if there will be space on a roster. However, should no one answer the call, the player is still responsible for arriving on time.

Hey I agree with that stuff. And the quote you put up made me realize that the rules section needs to be updated to reflect the 11:00 start times.
Yeah, yesterday I wanted to make an exception because a) it was the first time we had had too many people in a long time, so I figured a one-time reminder was in order; and b) the bbq after the game was scheduled.
But yeah, like I said I agree with you on these things. I told Dorian as well that I agreed, and I talked privately with the late people to reinforce with them the need to be on time.

In order to enforce the start times of the games, it would help greatly if someone could assist me in putting the bases down. It's a huge time hog, and I usually miss my chance to warm up before the games. I've noticed this sometimes affects my playing ability. I may be selfish, but I'd rather have a better game and be late than start on time and go 0-5.
I intended to write something to remind everybody of my superior prowess.
Well, Ken's suggestion (and I suppose the stated rules already sort of support this) is kind of harsh but probably fair. It is frustrating to sit out and/or having to forfeit a preferred position to accommodate late commers.
That said, let's not totally lose site of, what I consider is very unique and important about our Sunday baseball thingy--that it's a rare opportunity for the semi-skilled, semi-competitive yet avid player to play hardball. Unless we want to change it I'd like not to lose site of our current philosophy which I see as pretty close to, "if you love baseball come out Sunday mornings and play."
However, if we're going the first-come-first-served-capped-at-20 route then we need a sign up sheet that players can sign when they arrive. Perhaps they can specify a preferred position there as well.
btw, are we still posting on craigslist?

I know its harsh, but I agree with it. Its disrespectful to show up after then game should have started and expect to get things your way, when there are people who were there at 10:30.
By the way, If I can get there from SF by 10:30, so can you east bay people
Unless 580 explodes or something.

As a note, I don't think any less of someone who shows up late. Shit happens, things come up, I know this all too well. I'm not going to hate you because you show up late, but I don't think you should expect to have the same role in the game as someone who showed up on time.
Rules:
1. I am always right.
2. If I am ever wrong, read rule number 1.
