I nominate myself for Gaff of the Game, if for no other reason, for missing out on an inside the park home run, what would have been the first HR at Curt Flood and the first outside of Defremery (I think).
What pisses me off most is that I had just taken off my cleats, as they were killing my feat. Had I still got them on I think the extra traction when cornering around the bases would have put me at 3B just a little sooner, probably enough that I would have gone for it. Seemed like I would have made it either way, so I am really kicking myself hard right now.
It's going to take me along time to get over that, dammit, no matter that I had a good day otherwise.

Hey I'll get the box scores up by the end of today, I had a long night.
Yeah, Paul, maybe with the cleats you would've made it. However, I was out there as the cutoff/relay man, and I lead the league in gunning people out at home plate. So I don't know if ya would've made it!

Yeah. I think Paul learned a valuable lesson in baserunning, but since I notice there are people who sometimes forget when to run and when not to, maybe there should be a recap.
You can overrun first base only. If you do, you must turn to the right after reaching first or you're considered "on your way to second" which makes you eligible for a tag-out. Once you reach base (i.e. standing on first, second, third) you can be tagged out any time you aren't touching a base.
In a situation with less than 2 outs, you MUST advance if the batter hits a fair ball and he or another baserunner is running toward the base on which you are standing. i.e. If I'm on second and there's a runner on first, the batter then needs to run to first which forces the runner on first to run to second which in turn means I need to haul ass to third. This is referred to as a force. If the ball is caught, the batter is out and all runners need to return to the base they started from before advancing. This is referred to as tagging up. If a baserunner overruns any base while returning to that base, he is still eligible to be tagged out as per the rule stated in the previous paragraph. Same thing goes for anyone who slides past any base except home (provided home plate was touched in some way first).

I intended to write something to remind everybody of my superior prowess.
What you should not do is anticipate that the ball will not be caught. If it looks like the fielder has a good chance of making the catch, and there's less then two outs, retreat to your base. Remeber, the worst thing that can happen is getting doubled up from the outfield. If the ball does drop, and you still get thrown out at the base you were heading to remember, the guy who just hit will be on base.
