Wusses

It's inevitable -- might as well make a forum for it. (Wait, is this supposed to be a family-friendly site?)

Wusses

All of you guys who didn't show up today because you heard it was going to rain... are wusses.

I didn't show today for a number of reasons... grandma's birthday, ma's fiancee passing and still being hurt from last week... However, all the above notwithstanding... better a wuss than being maimed by thrown wet bats, crippled by trying to run and cut in mud... Football and Rugby in the mud are one thing (FUN !!) Baseball and water don't mix... been there done that when I was like 13... so better a wuss than a fool

OK, so only those people who only had the possibility of rain as their reason for not showing are wusses.

Interestingly....

I was shocked how well the Curt Flood field reacted to rain. I went there at 9:30 this morning and it was basically bone dry. The outfield was barely moist at all.

That field has some amazing drainage properties....... not unlike another field we've played on that drains well............... DeFremery!

Don't forget, next week's game is the DeFremery reunion game to be played at Noon at DeFremery park 16th & Union, West Oakland.

Wish I could have played today. Unfortunately I got stuck working;

At least I got some softball in Saturday--despite the gloom and doom forecast that never materialized. A partial fix is better that none at all.

BTW--What happened? Did it actuall rain today? How many showed up? Did you guys play today?

I was planning to show. I had the car, all of my gear in it...

... but I got absolutely hammered on Saturday night. Like... wow. So after nursing a hangover in the morning I fell back asleep and didn't wake up till 4pm. Sorry guys

Ah yes, worshipping at the porcelain altar. Well, that's punishment enough!

Probably there are very few people, if any, who did not have a reasonably good excuse for not coming. I do hereby withdraw my criticism.

That said, let's have a good turnout for good old Defremery. I know some people prefer the other parks quite strongly, but don't you miss doubles, triples and home runs, at least a little bit?

Between Daniel being a wuss and Dorian being a wuss, I think I have a pretty good excuse for not showing up (no car).

I guess if I was a real man I would've walked

We saw many doubles and a few triples in the first week at Curt Flood (and there were 3 or 4 that just missed being homeruns). To be perfectly frank, I dispise DeFremery- it's Park Baseball's answer to the steroid scandal ("everyone wants to see more homeruns!", "it doesn't hurt any to pad your stats a little!"). The game we play at DeFremery is barely even baseball and odds are good that I won't be there next week.

First of all I've played a game in the rain before, it's just hard to get to a baseball field with no bus going that way, plus the only phone number I have is Scott's and I don't want to call him at 11 30 when he's already at the park, plus tommorow (Easter) is a family celebration so it's hard for me to get away. I'm starting to get a baseball twitch, NEED BASEBALL, so in a week I will be back like I said before with a shitload of people.
