so, i changed my pic to make it a bit more appropriate for baseball. for whatever reason, some people seem to think it's strange to have a picture of pancetta with a cleaver in it. no idea why.
anyway... this is one of my favorite pics. this play, or the sequence of plays, is a good example of why jackie robinson was a hell of a baseball player, despite less than stellar stats. so, it's trivia time.
i don't know the date, or opposing team, but if anyone knows the circumstances that end with this play, i will give them absolutely nothing, save the slightest bit of admiration.
so, anyone know what's going on?

I know of a similar photo of him stealing home in the World Serise vs the Yankees with Yogi Berra. The funny thing is that he was totaly out!

yeah, i know that photo too, and yup, he was out. probably called safe because he was jackie robinson. the ump just assumed he'd dodged the tag. this aint a world series, but it's still pretty cool.

yeah, baseball's a bit to tough when you can barely walk. sitting on your ass on a computer isn't. 'sides, i'm getting paid to sit on my ass in front of a computer now. in fact, i'm getting paid to write this inane response? that's pretty cool. missing baseball sucks.

since no one seems to give a shit, here's what's going on.
tie game (1-1, i believe). bottom of ninth. one out. jackie walks. steals second. sac'd to third (2 outs). steals home. dodgers win.
it's shit like that that makes me believe maybe jackie deserves all the fame he got. his numbers were never that impressive, and, yeah, he deserves credit for what he was able to do despite all the shit he got, but when push came to shove, he was the type of guy who could make things happen.

Keep in mind, Jakie isn't just a in the HoF for his MLB stats. He had an excellent Negro League career as well.

yeah, but you don't get into the hall for negro league careers, or do you? i seem to remember that there was a special provision? are josh gibson and satchel paige in the hall?

Yes they are, and so is Cool Papa Bell, and many many others, including about a dozen players who made it into the hall this year alone.
