Mid-Year Predictions for Playoffs

AL West: LA Angles
I think they are the best team in baseball. I pick them to go far into the playoffs.

AL Central: Chicago White Sox
I think their lineup is prone to slowing down, but in a weak division, they will win by a landslide.

AL East: Boston Red Sox
Getting back Shilling will only help this team, and Manny is really playing his best for the first time all year.

AL Wild: NY Yankees
I hate to say it, but I think the Yankees may pull it out. George III will get them the pitching they need in a trade.

NL West: San Diego Padres
They are a good team in a suck-ass division.

NL Central: St. Louis Cardinals
Best team in the NL will keep on winning with its awesome lineup and strong bullpen.

NL East: Washington Nationals
I predicted they would win the East at the start of the year, and I think they will keep winning. If they can add a hitter for their 4th spot, they will be set.

NL Wild: Atlanta Braves
They are forever winning, but I feel they don’t have the depth of years past.

I did this exercise with my friends while I was in Reno:

Here's my picks:

AL West: ANGELS
AL Central: WHITE SOX
AL East: RED SOX

NL West: PADRES
NL Central: CARDINALS
NL East: BRAVES

AL wild card: YANKEES
NL wild card: NATIONALS

ALCS: RED SOX vs WHITE SOX, WHITE SOX win
NLCS: BRAVES vs CARDINALS, CARDINALS win

World Series: CARDINALS win

NOTE: Nick had basically the same picks, except he has the YANKEES winning the AL East, and the RED SOX winning the AL wild card. Also, he similarily switched the BRAVES and NATIONALS, so he agrees with you that the NATs will win the NL East, and that the BRAVES will take the wild card. And he, like us has the CARDINALS winning the world series, only he says it will be over the YANKEES.

I agree with most of Scotts picks, except I don't think the White Sox will make it out of the first round of the playoffs, especially if they face someone like the red sox or yankees, much for the same reasons the A's never did. In a 5 game series it is absolutely crucial that no one make any mistakes. The Yanks and Red Sox understand this and know how to execute it, the White Sox wont, not this year at least.
