He's cheep, but broken. Would you take him?

Ordonez will have great numbers if healthy. He's one of the top 10 offensive producers in MLB. Everything about his game is a plus, though he doesn't have the speed or arm that Beltran has (going back to our earlier discussion about Beltran).

The only question is the enigmatic nature of his knee. Torn meniscus? Edema? His agent, Scott Boras, claims it's all good, but note that the White Sox didn't offer him arbitration last 12/7/04 when they could have.

I would LOVE to see Magglio Ordonez in the Bay Area. He's really fun to watch, although RF at Pac Bell would take some getting used to for him (or for anyone for that matter).

I doubt he's healthy though. In this day and age of massive salaries even for guys that hit only 20 HRs a year and are defensive liabilites, someone like Maggio (if healthy) is not something you let get away, which the White Sox are clearly letting happen. Sure, Aaron Rowand had a great year for them last year, but without Magglio/Konerko/F. Thomas at the heart of that Chicago lineup, the tablesetters like Rowand up top remain on base. The White Sox languished for 3/4 of the season last year after Magglio was out with the knee thing.

I would take Maggs over Beltran, because he is so much cheeper. I'm still not sold on Beltran being the next A-Rod, or Barry Bonds (as I've heard some say). I don't see his AVG being high enough to be a key player in a lineup. But Maggs is a strong 4 or 5 spot hitter, and would fill that role great.

I think he'd be a great fit on the A's, persoanly, but I know that's not Beane's style.

Two years ago I would have said yes, oh god, yes. Not any more though. not that he'll suck it up, but at this point he's a gamble at best, seeing as you can't sign him for virtually nothing, and theres a chance that his injuries will be too severe for him to ever make it big again.


Oooo, here's a good question. What do you guys think will happen with Giambi? Will he get the boot from the Yankees? Would that do him any good?

Isn't Giambi dying of cancer? I don't think the Yankees will get to keep him for too long anyway.
