A's / Twins Game 1: Zito vs Santana - outcome revealed
The A's beat Johan Santana today! 2 HR's from Frank Thomas! Key 2 out RBI double from Marco Scutaro, scoring Payton. Clutch pitching from Zito to outduel Santana.
Let's stick it to the whole media establishment and win it all!
Let's go Oak-Land !!!!!!

(God I wish the Yanks played in Brooklyn. Being from Brooklyn I could make that sound so much more intimidating.)

Booooooooorrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnngggggg!!!Pat K wrote:We don't need any more of your Yanker propaganda here pal.
We all know the Yanks have the best team Brian Cashman can buy with 200+ million. Good for you.
Not this again. Patrice you are in desperate need of new anti-Yankee material.
Excuse me but the 18 mil a year AL MVP candidate would like to welcome all A's fans to October with a 5-5 performance and some MONEY-Balls for your asses!!! (He's feeling philanthropic since there are only about 2000 A's fans at every game anyway.)
I wonder why the owner doesn't let the GM spend any money???
I love October!!!!!

Yeah, Jeter was awesome yesterday. And, yes, lets open the wallets and put more dough into the team... it aint just Steinbrenner that has cash to spend. I don't know whether the A's are guilty of this, but a lot of teams aren't reinvesting their revenue sharing back into the team. Instead, it just goes to luxuries for the owner. There's no Reaganomics in baseball, no trickle down. That should be a rule in MLB---you are required to put the money you get from the Yanks back onto the field. We need an invisible hand to keep capital local!
The Tigers were in that game yesterday, though. If Robertson makes that play on Damon's dribbler it's a whole different game. Instead of 2 men on, zero out, it would have been bases empty 2 out.

Correction: Damon led off with a single. If he hadn't, it would have been none on, 1 out with Jeter and the meat of the order up. They pounded Robertson with 5 hits after that. Normally I would agree with you that the momentum swung in the Yankees favor after the dribbler but the way Jeter was playing last night I think the only difference would have been one less run for the Bombers. If the situation you described were actually what had occurred, I would totally agree with you so please don't chalk up this reply to Yankees bias.

About the dribbler and then the follow-up hit by Jeter. The reason I say it would have been 2 outs, bases empty is because of the following. Obviously if Robertson gets the dribbler that's one out (Damon at 1st). So this is all about that second "out", Jeter's at-bat. Guillen was ranging over to 2nd to cover for the stolen base from Damon. It was of course a hit & run by the Yanks. The ball Jeter hit would have been an easy lineout catch if Guillen was not ranging over to cover.

Now, now. Let's remember that you addressed me when I was responding to a Scott post. Once you got my attention, I had to stick it to you and last time I checked we're talking baseball smack not having dinner at Gary Denko's so class is not a prerequisite.Pat K wrote:You want to start the name calling thing huh?
Besides I always thought Yankee fans had some class, you sound like a weak ass Red Sox fan. Oh we are so great blah blah blah. If you love Jeter so much why don't you just give him a Handy and get it overwith.
A's up 2gms to Zero
You sound like, well, a salty A's fan.
What am I supposed to say Yankees suck...go Cards????
What's a handy? Forget it, I don't think I want to know. Where did you get from my comments that I love Jeter? I merely stated factual information with no inference to my feelings for the Captain.
Go A's. Like I told Scott recently, I will root for them until they face NY. My seeing the Yankees in the playoffs is riding on the A's as much as it is the Yanks.
Speaking of Scott, before we get into a discussion involving physics, spatial relations and aerodynamics we'll just agree to disagree about Guillen's hypothetical catch.

Hahahah, no way dude, I cannot agree with this! Yeah, I had the perfect angle on the play though--you should have seen how close I was to my TV. And about loving Jeter--though I don't see he and I having any sort of successfull relationship, both being hetero, I definitely love the guy. I'm not so partisan that I can't acknowledge and enjoy excellence on the field by a player on another team.

danny its gary danko's, and i thought a yankee fan would prefer thomas keller,
and would the concecpt of the catch that be dismissed by this logic; jeter was aiming for gap in the defense, so damon not there to cause the gap then jeter doesnt aim for the gap as there is not one there, so he just tries to hit the normally?

I was always too busy loving Paul O'Neill. Those big curly locks. Respect Jeter, admire his calm under pressure but never really connected with the love affair most NYers have with him. Don't know why. I'll say this, last night, I grew to like him a whole lot more.Baseball=Life wrote:Hahahah, no way dude, I cannot agree with this!
