Oakland A's: Dye, Tejada, Giambi, Damon, etc
Who do the A's miss the most so far in 2006? To me, the answer has got to be not Jason Giambi, not Miguel Tejada, certainly not Mulder or Hudson........ Rather, it's got to be 2005 World Series MVP Jermaine Dye.
Tejada has 17 HRs, 26 RBI, 62 runs scored, and is hitting .315 in 2006. (Avg RIS: .309, Slg RISP: .426)
Giambi has 27 HRs, 72 RBI, 56 runs scored, and is hitting .260 in 2006. (Avg RISP: .292, Slg RISP: .806)
Dye has 25 HRs, 68 RBI, 56 runs scored, and is hitting .318 in 2006. (Avg RISP: .366, Slg RISP: .789)

I see your point.
Dye is protected by Thome and Konerko while Giambi protects others.
Tejada appears to be okay after Sosa left and they banned steroids.
Hudson is injury-prone, but far less so than Harden. Haren is pitching better than Mulder for sure.
After going through all that, I'm thinking along the same lines as you, Scott. Giambi probably would be going through the same thing as Barry right now if he stayed. However, I think upgrading Crosby to Tejada is much better than upgrading Bradley/Payton to Dye... but that's my opinion.

I intended to write something to remind everybody of my superior prowess.
i think that the loss of tejada is far greater than dye. crosby aint cutting it and with our 4 outfielders the loss of dye is less noticible. also dye isnt going to continue to be that great for much longer, where tejada is just entering his prime.
tejada's ablities considering he is a shortstop very nice. there arent many shortstops in the game that hit 300 with 35 hr and 100 rbis. there arent many good defensive shortstops, who hit that good. however a good defensive outfielder who hits 300 with 35hr and 100rbis is a lot more common.

Tejada, like Jeter, is not that good defensively. For Jeter, that's always been the case, for Tejada it's more a recent phenomenon. Is Tejada that youngthat he's now entering his prime?
Scott's question is who do the A's miss the most right now and in my opinion Dan Johnson's ineffectiveness coupled with Giambi's monstrous OBP, it would have to be Jason.
What is Bond's going through that Jason would have to endure if he were on teh A's? Bonds gets nothing but adoration in the Bay and the treatement he receives on the road is a product of him more than anything else. Jason came clean and somehow pulled himself back into monster form. I don't think there are two more different personalities tahn Giambi and Bonds. Also, remember the leadership Jason provided while with this team.
Side note: Ryan Howard is going to lead the league in homers for the next 10 years. I said it right here.

Besides what Joe Schmoe mentioned, Teh HA dah brought a sometimes forgotten intangible... "demonstrated passion". The A's could really use some life in the club house. Swisher brings some, but the rest of the A's are reveling in that So Cal laidback surfer mentality a little too much and it shows in their play sometimes.

I think it is unfair to compare Giambi and Bonds, because of the age differance. I don't think Giambi would have survived nearly as well as Bonds has (not sying Bonds has been that good). Besides, you should not boo your own guy. Did the Reds ever boo Pete Rose? No! But back t the point of this thread:
Daniel, I don't think you remeber Tejada in his early days as an "A." He was amazing. I only went to a few A's games, but everytime he did something I had never seen before. I agree, he is who they miss the most.

The only comparison I made between the 2 is in personality in which age is irrelevant. Bonds has always been a prick and Giambi hasn't, that's the only thing I was arguing after Nick said he didn't think Gimabi could deal with what Bonds deals with. As players, I wouldn't come close to arguing for Giambi. Bonds is Bonds regardless of his obvious inhumanity...trust me, I've seen it with my own eyes, it's not a media bias.
Peter, you don't think I remember Tejada in his early days??? That's a terrible assumption knowing I'm a Yankees fan and the A's/Yanks rivalry was at it's pinnacle when Tejada was on the team. I watched him consistently murder the Yankees all the time, argued vehemently with anyone I could about the Holy Trinity of SS without Tejada being a travesty and unsuccessfully tried to model my college game after his. So no, I had no idea who the guy was until he became an Oriole. But the point is who they miss now so far in 2006 and while I argued for Giambi, I'd pick Dye before Tejada.

you guys don't see it, but tejada's been doggin' it. he doesn't run out groundballs, and sometimes he doesn't run them out in the field. just sometimes, but it's so, not tejada, that you know somethin's messed up. he is not happy. he's still pretty good, but it doesn't matter 'cause the orioles suck. i do think he likes a lot of his team though. specially mora. they're fun to watch. anyway, right now, tejada's not doin' well. maybe he needs to go back to oakland. give me harden and you can have him.
No one should be happy playing on the Orioles. Didn't Tejada yammer about a trade early this year, only to retract in a week later or something?onion wrote:you guys don't see it, but tejada's been doggin' it. he doesn't run out groundballs, and sometimes he doesn't run them out in the field. just sometimes, but it's so, not tejada, that you know somethin's messed up. he is not happy. he's still pretty good, but it doesn't matter 'cause the orioles suck. i do think he likes a lot of his team though. specially mora. they're fun to watch. anyway, right now, tejada's not doin' well. maybe he needs to go back to oakland. give me harden and you can have him.
Not that I agree with lowering your performace level just because you don't like who you're working for, if you're making millions like Tejada I'd expect you to be a professional.

Well, that's all nice and easy to say from our vantige point. However, if you were in his shoes, I'd be surprised to see anyone act differently.Tayster wrote: Not that I agree with lowering your performace level just because you don't like who you're working for, if you're making millions like Tejada I'd expect you to be a professional.
He was, however, dumb for going to Balitmore in the first place.
True, true, I suppose I do have a different point of view.retep wrote:Well, that's all nice and easy to say from our vantige point. And I do agree, he was pretty dumb for going to Baltimore in the first place, but I think at the time he saw the Orioles trying to dig themselves out of the cellar, and thought he could be of assitance (while, you know, making gajillions of course). I fully expect Tejada to clammer for a trade in the offseason again.
