So we're looking at 40 per person (that's $600 divided by the 15 people)...
So that's $4 per game per player... Or, if we make it all the way in the playoffs, it ends up being only $3.33 per game per player.
The numbers don't look that bad to me now. But, I must ask, are there hidden costs? Are there any additional costs? Are uniforms extra or part of the deal?
Where are games played? Umpires are provided, yes?
I know you're not talking about a particular league, and it varies from league to league, but perhaps you could still speculate about what the cost involves, and, more importantly, what the cost doesn't involve.
So so far we have these possible participants: Richard, Pat, Ken, Scott, Nick, Paul, Chris A., Daniel R.

Let's bring this up at a future game and see if we can find other people who would help us get to the 15 guys. Hey, that brings up an important question...... how many people play? I assume it's 9 fielders, but does that mean 9 batters? Because it might be difficult to get someone to want to kick down the $40 if they can't fully participate.
Ok, here's the cost if we just did 10 people: $60 per person for 10 games ($6.00 / game), or, if we go deep into the playoffs: $60 per person for 12 games ($5.00 / game).
I'd be willing to do the $60 and have a more limited roster so we each get to play more. Is there a downside to this idea of a smaller roster, aside from it costing more per participant?
Finally, what about a corporate sponsor? My workplace (nonprofit) can't do it, but maybe someone else's workplace sees $300 as a good price for community involvement, community marketing via our uniforms? If that happened, then the cost for each of us would be cut in half, of course.

I am speaking about Oakland rec league softball. Games played at Pinto field on Redwood road (above highway 13)and Allendale field on 35th (near Macarther).
Umpires are provided.
uniforms are not.(if we wanted to go cheap we could all buy matching 3/4 length baseball tees at sportmart for $7)
10 people play at a time (4outfielders)
It sucks to sit on the bench but you can have 12 people batting and rotate on the field.
I think the max roster would be 14-15 people

My eyes lit up when I saw "Pinto." I've seen aerial shots, and it looks awesome. I bought a stencil set a while back just for this purpose. I have numbers and letters, so we can even have our names on the jerseys for like 50¢ per person.Umpires are provided.

I intended to write something to remind everybody of my superior prowess.
scott those all said they would be down. wow when i first posted i expected at least half of you to laugh at me saying things like "softball is for girls" or "you wanna play softball thats just lame". but its cool to know that so many people are down. but 8 isnt 14 so we will need at least 4 more. i wonder about people who havent said anything (maybe they havent seen it) like dave antmo and michael. if we have have more than 10 people at a game i will volenteer to dh as i am a bum in the field. but i feel i bring a good bat. also a big question who will pitch. in softball you must arc the pitch at least 6ft and no more than 12ft, i did this in one season of softball but did sorta bad. as in i got away with a much higher arc then i soulda and i had a hard time not moving my feet. the reason for this is my dad thought my how to pitch softball style but he was left handed so now i step with the wrong foot and it looks really weird.

so everyone ask one person and hopefully this will work out. also does anyone have a softball bat? i might have a few they were my dads and there is a chance that they got put in storage with a lot of other crap. however if they are there then they are dead aas they are about 15-25 years old.
