Age, Occupation, & Interests
Wow! You are an interesting bunch of guys. Even before I read your self-descriptions I had always left DeFremery with a feeling like, "this is really a great collection of people." I really feel priviliged to have made your aquaintances.
As for me, I'm Dave, one of the "old guys". So old that I'm not going to devulge it. One of these days, or decades, you'll understand... I'm married and have a almost 8 year old avid baseball player son, Henry. I'm from the east coast, moved out here from Manhattan in '94.
I owe my revived baseball career to Henry. He awakened a passion in me that had lay dorment since...little league! That's right. I started playing baseball again last fall, the first time since little league. (So give me a break on my hitting already!
And now, I'm hooked...
Occupation wise, I'm kind of "between things" now. My last job was 8 years as a programmer at a small software company in Oakland. Before that I had gone back to school and got a BS in EE. Before that I had my own band, Cowboy Mouth in NYC. I was the lead singer and guitarist. (btw, there's another Cowboy Mouth that came out after we had disbanded. They got quite a bit more successful than we did. Story of my life...) We put out one independent album. (back in my day music was physcically and pain stakenly etched into these huge circular black plastic discs called "albums." You can see one that was recently discovered preserved beneath 30 feet of ice in Antartica if you visit the Smithsonian...)
And before that I played drums with a guy named John Cale of Velvet underground fame. I can see your blank expressions. Who is that?! Now I'm *really* showing my age. And before that I was a recording engineer in a 24 track studio in NYC. Back then they recorded music on a flexible plastic tape-like substance embedded with magnetic particles... OK, I won't go there again...
And before that I was an avid surfer.
And now, besides baseball I still mess around with music. I (attempt to) write and record on the computer (Cubase SX) and have gotten into jazz and jam with other friends. And btw, with all the musicians here maybe we should hook up for some jamming!
Well, thanks for induging me. I'm heading to Puerto Rico tomorrow so I'll regrettably miss a few Sunday afternoons. But look forward to playing with you all when I return.

I’m Rob from Alameda.. I guess I’m also one of the older guys. Until playing with you guys, I haven’t played hardball since high school (35 years ago). I’m sure it will take some time and practice to get my skills up to speed to the group’s level. I think its great this group exists and have had a blast playing with you guys.. Wish I’d found it a long time ago. And the site and this forum’s pretty cool too.
As far as work goes….I wear a lot of hats. I’m a commercial contract pilot flying for an air charter company as well as a number of wealthy individuals. I’m also the office & operations manager, and provide the (computer) tech support for the charter company. Being an independent contractor I’ve got lots of flexibility in my schedule and frequently work from home when I’m not flying (I live off a pager so I typically don’t know for sure what I’m doing or where I’ll be from day-to-day although I try to keep my weekends off). I also give flight instruction on the side. I’ve been doing this for the last 20 years, although I’ve also worked part-time doing PC & network support for a couple of large companies (IBM & Blue Cross).
As far as other activities, when I’m not working—I’m playing.. During the week (M-TH mornings) I go to Alameda College where I’ve been taking PE classes for the past couple of years , play badminton (competitive indoor—not the backyard game most know of) on Tues nights and try to play tennis at least once a week. On Saturdays-- I normally play tennis in the mornings, then in the afternoons play softball (in a pickup group very similar to this group that I organized about 18 months ago), then badminton on Sat nights from 7-11. I usually do the same thing on Sundays (although I’ve replaced softball with baseball). I also workout at 24 hr (usually in Hayward) a couple of days a week.
Like some of the other guys here, I'm also a musician ( or a musician wanna be). I play keyboard/organ and autoharp (and want to learn guitar), and usually spend the last hour before bed playing. Normally I play folk and pop (from the 60s-70s).

I was just re-reading this post and I realized some questions and comments.
First, Peter, how did you become City Commissioner? That's crazy, you're 20 right? I guess that's SF!
Yeah, Paul, the availiabilty of raw ingredients here in the Bay Area is such a major plus! I bet it is great for cooking, I mainly just do bachelor cuisine, hahaha.
Paul & Anthony, hahahaha you guys are talking about some high tech shit, I still play the vinyl that Dave was talking about having made with his old band. Truly, I buy more LPs than CDs.
Wow, a pilot, computer medical guy, future Public Health Epidemiology grad, "pipe organ tuner" or whatever the hell Nick does, then Peter's political stuff he does, musicians throughout the group......... What an array!
