McConnell New Permanent Primary Field

Post by Southpaw Slim »

After playing at McConnell, I can attest to its benefits. The field is like a full-scale representation of DeFremery, except it has a matching tall fence in right field to equalize the advantage for left-handed power hitters. It's in the same box shape as DeFrem, but there's an 8-foot fence from left-center to right-center with a 12-foot backstop in deep center (which means there's potential for home run robbery!) There's also a warning track of about 6 feet (or 3 steps) all around the outfield except for center field, which has another (smaller) dirt infield in the corner.

The field has a lower mound, like the post-Bob Gibson MLB. The distance to the bases seems a slight bit shorter than Curt Flood, but I'd have to go out and lay down a tape measure to be sure. The real bonus is it has a grass infield like Flood, and it was manicured when we showed up. There are also the foul ball catchers like at Flood, hanging from the backstop down the foul lines.

Since I've written so much about it yet left it for two days on-screen, let me post what I have and add to it later. That's one indication of how great this field is.

McConnell is the answer to our DeFremery problems. The shape is the same, yet it's better sized to our current skill level. There are no houses or streets past the outfield. It has a grass infield AND a lower mound. It has shady dugouts for those hot summer games (covered in ivy) and there is a VERY low chance of losing any baseballs, except for home runs. The only disadvantages are the dirt in center field, and the lamppost sticking out of the ground in left.
I intended to write something to remind everybody of my superior prowess.

The plan is to play the live game this Sunday at McConnell. Make sure you check the website or the phone hotline Sunday morning to verify which field to go to (Updated at 9:20 AM)
