Should We Develop a Master Schedule?

Post by retep »

Seeing as now we have this somewhat complicated game plan (some games at Curt Flood, some at DeFremery, some live games, some not, ect…) I was thinking that someone should come up with a master schedule.

I was thinking maybe Scott, Ken, and Nick could take a lead (Scott, ‘cause he’s the man in charge, Ken, ‘cause he’s a bitch, and Nick ‘cause he does the website.)

I also don’t feel like this needs to be an issue where everybody weighs in on. We have had the discussions over live games and our rules, and the different parks. I think what we need not is a real schedule, even if it’s developed rather arbitrarily. This way, people like Ken could plan ahead with when he should play the games he wants. Other could plan in advance for different modes of transporting themselves around.

That there seems to be quite a nifty idea.

Be assumptive

Post by Baseball=Life »

Peter, you've never had a sales job, have you?

To get the results you want, you need to learn how to be tactfully assumptive. The DeFremery vs Raimondi debate that settled on the 62% non-DeFremery solution was done to keep Ken involved. Your post gives Ken an "out" to avoid certain games. This works against all the negotiation done previously to keep Ken involved.

As for the master schedule, that's a good idea. I'll get it set up by next week.

I'll start work on a calendar for the website, too. It'll only take 10 minutes to draft up.
I intended to write something to remind everybody of my superior prowess.

Master Schedule ----- Double Headers Experiment

Post by Baseball=Life »

I have the Master Schedule ready, so let me know when you can make it show up on the website, Nick.

Despite there being 3 months with 5 Sundays, I was able to still achieve the goal of having over half, specifically 62%, of games at Curt Flood.

Originally we were going to do half and half, but it's been decided to lean more toward Curt Flood. There will be 8 more games there than at DeFremery. 21 dates at Curt Flood, 13 at DeFremery. Note: This doesn't count double headers, that increases game totals.

The concept of "live" games (with pitching, leadoffs, steals) once per month looks good, although we should continue to play that by ear.
Generally, I'm looking at the 2nd Sunday each month as the day to do the "live" game (unless that day is scheduled for DeFremery, in which case we move the "live" game back a week --- "live" games are always at Curt Flood).

I like the idea of having a regular "non-live" game after the "live" game, like we did last Sunday. IE, a double-header. So I'll advocate for there to be a regular "non-live" game afterwards on those 2nd Sundays when we have "live" games.

Until Nick & I can get the Master Schedule up on the site, I'll just let you know that the next game is at DeFremery on May 1st.

We've never done a double header at DeFremery, maybe this next Sunday is the day to try it! Anyway, we'll decide that as the week progresses.

Also, I think it's safe to say the experiment with double headers themselves was a success, and that they're fun to do. We just have to start the first game by 11:00 (possibly 10:30), and start the 2nd game by 2:30 (2:00 would be even better). And then, obviously, keep the game moving, keep people hustling in and out in between innings.

That 2nd game we played yesterday was one of our quickest ever, only like 2 hours 15 minutes. The defense is getting tighter. Lowest scoring game ever as well (8-6).
