Well I'm still up in the air about what to do with myself and whether to DH Carlos. Anyway, I just got word that Dave L. extended his vacation so can't come, and Eddie R. has a broken toe, so he's out as well.
Hopefully this won't all become moot due to bad weather!
PS: I think it will be necessary to bring a big bag of dirt to Curt Flood to make the mound more usable. I can handle bringing the dirt, but if someone else has a shovel and/or could help even the dirt around the rubber, that would be really good.

Opinions
Here are my (Daniel R.) thoughts on a broad range of topics being discussed throughout this forum.
Lineup for Sunday (based on what I have seen in my playing time with you guys):
Scott (2b)....I know you said you're not that comfortable hitting live pitching but I have a feeling you will be on base all day)
Ken (C)
Will (LF)
Chad (RF)
Carlos (CF)
That Kid that played short 2 weeks ago with the Yankee hat (SS)
Nick (DH)
Peter Rich (1b)
Myself (P)
The SS's boy who played next to him at 3rd (3B)
Where's Tai been? He'd be a great addition in the IF and lineup. This lineup gives us R-R-L-R-L-R-R-L-R-R as well as a perfect combination of speed, average and power up and down the lineup. I placed myself low because I want to win and knowing how I am I want to be able to focus on pitching (if I'm chosen to start). That being said I think Scott, Ken and I offer similar qualities that are interchangeable within the lineup. Also the bottom can be reconfigured but it's the heart of the order that I believe is strongest as is.
Rules:
Bunting should be allowed to give the catcher a greater sense of value since he's technically doing nothing beyong playing catch with the pitcher and occasionally making a play at the plate. It also allows guys who aren't hitting so well to snap out of a funk. You'd be amazed the difference it makes to actually touch 1st base and see the field from that view when you think you never will again.
Teams should be allowed to pitch to opposing teams. All of us understand that the way a team wins in our set-up is by playing crisp defense, putting the ball in play and hopefully stringing multiple hits together. The pitcher's recognize their job and are not looking to strike dudes out. I know I'm not. It's fun to get in a groove and see how many strikes (re: meatballs) you can throw up there in a row. Also, if someone tells you to slow it down just respect it and do it; as for location, remember, we're human, so batters should not be allowed to get frustrated if someone is not constantly hitting their ideal spot. In that case, learn to hit various pitches...we're all having fun but I know I'm constantly trying to improve my game. None of us will ever be pros but while I'm young and able I want to be the best in my league/area. The stats board is a a huge motivation factor in that regard.
I'm cool with any start time.
I love live games. Period. I'd rather have the challenge of hitting faster pitching any day of the week. If steals are really that big of an issue than make up a rule about number of steals allowed per inning or per person per game. That way it doesn't become a merry-go-round, hitters have to move runners over and really get solid hits for rbis and runners have to pick their spots based on in-game situation. Self-managing if you would.
Can't wait till' tomorrow. I have a good feeling about it and I think we're going to surprise ourselves.
Scott, can you activate my account when you get a chance. I got a response saying I was waiting for activation 4 days ago.

Re: Opinions
I like this lineup, except... I'm unclear who you're talking about. 2 weeks ago, at the 2/05 game at Curt Flood, there were 2 shortstops---one was Eddie (I think he had the NY hat)... Eddie broke his big toe and will be out for a few more weeks. The other SS was Rob D., and he was there with his brother Ryan D., who played 3B (for the opposing team). Unfortunately, I don't have their phone numbers and am not sure which email on the big list are theirs--so I can't say whether or not to expect Ryan and Rob.Taino Terror wrote:

Great question---something must have come up for him because I had the impression he loved the games he was involved with. Shit--he even brought landscaping equipment to the games. That last game he was involved with back at Golden Gate was awesome, with 4 double plays turned.Tainted Terror wrote: Where's Tai been? He'd be a great addition in the IF and lineup.
Yeah, I have you penciled in to start, Daniel.Tainted Terror wrote: ... I want to be able to focus on pitching (if I'm chosen to start).
Here's the current bunting rule: "- Bunts - Bunts are only allowed when each team has 9 players, including a catcher and a "fielding" or "defensive" pitcher." So, bunting is allowed when we have enough players. Are you saying, Daniel, that bunting should be allowed when there is just 8 players per team, ie no defensive pitcher? I don't like the idea of someone from the batting team being the defender on bunts.Tainted Terror wrote: Rules:

Hey, I'm sure you read it in the other post, but for anyone who missed it, we're going to try having no "defensive pitcher" position at the March 5th game.Tainted Terror wrote: Teams should be allowed to pitch to opposing teams.
I hear you that there are aspects of live games that we just don't get to experience in our normal games--leadoffs, on-base-%, etc. I think I'm always willing to increase the percent of live games, directly proportional to how well we're playing in them.Tainted Terror wrote: I love live games.

It's actually Jason who does the activation. I'll try to mention it to him when I see him at work Monday (if not before).Tainted Terror wrote:Scott, can you activate my account when you get a chance. I got a response saying I was waiting for activation 4 days ago.

You posted both within two days of each other. Which one is it?Baseball=Life wrote:I've even considered eliminating live games entirely, so, if anything, I'm leaning in the other direction.

Re: Opinions
My perspective remains unchanged. Now, as before, I want to have the percentage of our live games to be directly set by how well we're playing them, with the once/month standard being the default. But, if we can't show some level of improvement (see the "Well that sucked" thread), then we have to recognize the experiment failed and go back to no live games.Southpaw Slim wrote:Baseball=Life wrote:I hear you that there are aspects of live games that we just don't get to experience in our normal games--leadoffs, on-base-%, etc. I think I'm always willing to increase the percent of live games, directly proportional to how well we're playing in them.Tainted Terror wrote: I love live games. You posted both within two days of each other. But I don't think we are near that point... I started thinking that (the experiment had failed) as we were going into the 12/11/05 game, but it went pretty well and resuscitated my belief that we could improve and thus still play live at least once/month. Only now has turnout stabilized enough to go back to trying it.
