Stat Accuracy

Hey guys, I just finished creating the boxscore for today 2/27.

It was once said that there's two types of stats:

Accurate Stats and Worthless Stats.

Let's try to keep that in mind when we score our games.

Hahahah ...... but truly, it's nice knowing the stats are correct.

I had to make a few adjustments to correct the stats. For instance, I didn't have an at-bat listed. Anyway, since the stats are tracked by inning number rather than by a generic tally mark, I was able to recreate and correct the stats.


Don't worry---I'm going to re-do the scoresheets so it will be easier for everyone to take part in scoring.

And thanks to everyone who helps---it's my fault for not making an easy-to-use scoresheet, not you guys' fault.

For instance, I'll redo the column heads so they are clear to everyone.

On this topic, are we using MLB standards when scoring hits vs. errors?

Lets say a hard hit ball goes to the third baseman, who juggles it just a little, and also has to make a very long throw to First. Runner is safe because he is a fast runner. If the third baseman had fielded it perfectly, it still would have been close because of the long throw.

In Defremery Park League (DPL), is that a hit or error?

The situation you're describing happened at least twice today, once when I was batting, and once when Kenyatte was batting. Both were hard ground balls to 3B that were juggled a bit, that both Ken & I (fast runners) "beat out" at 1st. Both were credited as hits because even without the juggle, we most likely would have beaten them out. For instance, I was the 3rd base coach when Ken was batting so it was right in front of me. When Mike got the ball at 3B, Ken was only about 5 steps away from the bag at 1st. He juggled it a bit & made the throw, which Ken of course "beat out" at 1st. Since it would have been close at best even without the juggle, I awarded Ken the hit.

Notice it was me who "awarded" Ken the hit. This is because DPL rules stipulate that the scorekeeper is the final decision-maker for stat purposes. And the scorekeeper is whoever is scoring at the time. They can ask for help, but it is their decision.

One exception: the Web Gem nomination process.

I think that these DPL rules are the same as MLB, but then again, scoring does vary a bit from park to park in MLB.
