3 / 4 / 07 --- boxscore up

Post by Baseball=Life »

Check it out, extra-inning game:

3/4/07 boxscore

Matt C. had a huge game (7 hits, reached base all 8 times), Nick W. hit a Grand Slam, Chad C. hit the game winner (3-R HR) in the 10th...

Dan R. had 6 RBI and 3 of his 6 hits were for extra bases. Will J. scored 4 times, including a towering solo HR in the 8th to bring the home team within 1 run.

The away team came back from being down 8-2 after 4 Inn. (and 10-5 after 6 Inn.)...

This takes me back...

I can't believe I'm the first person to respond to a post-game thread. Especially since Matt had a record-book performance, there was a late-inning Grand Slam, and a home run secured the lead in EXTRA INNINGS! Where's the fire, people?! This game was fucking awesome!!!

And furthermore,

I think the player of the game should be decided. There are three people who come to mind off the top of my head: Matt, Chad, and Dan.

Matt - 7 for 8 (many with 2 out), 3 runs, on base 8 of 8 times AND turned two double plays (6-3 and 1-6-3)
Chad - 2 for 6, 2 R, triple, game winning 10th inning 3-run HR, 5 RBI, on base 4 of 6 times
Dan - 5 for 6, 2 R, 2 doubles, triple, 6 RBI, on base 6 of 6 times

Seeing as how Chad's homer was a game-winner I'm leaning toward him, despite Matt's incredible performance both at the plate and in the field. The only thing keeping Chad back is a baserunning error that ended an inning before the runner from second could cross the plate. And as for Dan, he would definitely have gotten it with his 6 RBI and extra-base hits had his team won the game.

I agree with all the above analysis.

One of the best OPB games I've ever been a part of.

Nick, I believe you deserve some consideration for player of the game based on the huge momentum shift caused by your grand slam. It was deflating for our team. Not to mention it was a BOMB.

Renee's two out single was also a killer especially since I somehow thought I was going to stab it out of the air with my pitiful leap.

The best thing about Matt's day was that we knew where he was going each time and we still couldn't do anything about it.

I really wish I had been a bit more aggressive in the early stages of the game as I was stranded at third twice after not taking a chance at the plate. It may have broken your backs as the score could have seemed insurmountable.

Sunday cannot come fast enough!!!

Unfortunately, well maybe not unfortunately, I think I'm going to Tahoe the following weekend and will miss a chance to add some HRs to the stat board at good ol' Nicholls. I love that place.

One of these days a HR will get robbed from someone at Nichol. For real.

Thanks for the consideration, Dan. I was thinking of adding myself to the mix, but I'm not one to talk myself up. Besides, with there only being one out Paul still would have been able to make an impact. I was just glad that I was able to serve up enough good pitches to load the bases for myself.

BTW, Scott: Congrats on your Baseball Demon status.

I'm so pissed I missed this game. Looking at the box score, I don't see how anyone but Matt could be the player of the game. Chad should get some bonus points for knocking in the winning run, but not nearly enough to make up for Matt's huge advantage in production and fielding. 7 for 8 with two double plays -- holy shit! Chad would never have been in position to win the game for his team had it not been for Matt's remarkable and historic performance.
Real men hit with wood.
