June is just around the corner, which means it's time to
start considering your
Season 3 MVP candidates!
I know it seems like a short season, but remember how long Season 1 was. Get used to the 20-game season as a benchmark.

July 2 - DeFremery - Picnic Party - Start of Season 4
July 9 - Curt Flood - BALLOTS ARE DUE

Ummmm, usualy the BBQ is a great time to announe the winners. Is there another way we can work this out?
I wouldn't even mind pushing for a one week turn over. A few choice calls made, and we could beat the lousy 8-person turnout easirly, in any time.

Yeah, the problem is votes trickle in really slowly sometimes. I hear you on how it's good timing to announce the winners at the BBQ though. Let's see what sort of turnout there is as we approach that point before shutting down the polls.

can we not do it at defremery please!
playing at defremery just isnt fun once you leave junior high
i liked the idea of have the BBQ at flood, like we were planning for last time but couldnt cause they locked it up.
also i want to invite friends to the BBQ but it feels wrong to bring friends to watch me play at such a loosy field.
i would want my friends to watch a game that is like 6 to 5 where i win it inthe bottom of the 9th with a triple. not a 25 to 33 game where everyone bats at or over .600
now then the part about the game winning triple is just a joke. well not really
also i feel that curt flood would have a better party vibe. for example i wasnt cool with that random fool who walked up and begged for some food and beer at the last bbq.
and i agree that the bbq should be where we hand out the awards cause it will be the time when turn out is the highest. like last week me, ken and daniel t left cause we were 22, 23 and 24 but if there would have been a bbq afterwards we probally woulda stayed.

Naw, I pretty much just disagree with you...... it's still fun to me to play there once in a great while. I hear you on the random guy walking up though.

Oh, great! Then can we make you responsible for bringing the BBQ sets to another feild? yay!
Scott, you have people's numbers. I think what we do is that we push people to fill the ballots out at the games, we call a couple people to remind them, and starting now, you send out reminders to people to keep checking stats.

I have a little Smokey Joe that I can bring, and lots of coal and lighter fluid. We would need one more, though. Wherever we hold it, I would still like to use our own grills. That way we could be a little more secluded. Wouldn't it be cool to grill up burgers and dogs out in center field? Or on the infield?

So long as we don't fuck up the field.

Sorry to burst some bubbles, but if we grilled at CF we'd have a permit issue that extends beyond what we already have. Don't forget, we're talking about the 4th of July weekend. That's why the barbecue is scheduled the way it is.
Besides, we never play any games at DeFremery anymore. If you don't want to play there, you can man the grills and get everything set up during the game (so I don't have to leave the game in the 8th inning like last time.)
Also, it isn't hard just to tell someone, "This is a private party for league members only." If we encounter some scavengers, we can shoo them away more aggressively than last time.
I think the main issue with holding the BBQ at DeFremery is securing the grill in time. If we set up when we get there at 10:15, we can call dibs on a shady spot.

ok maybe i was a littlle harsh about defremery, it is fun once in while. I would be down for a def game just not for the bbq. But i still feel that a more interesting game will be played at flood. And with friends watching i would feel more than a little silly.
to the fact that flood doesnt have a grill pit makes a better idea than def, last time when we were trying to have a cf didn t like 5 people say they have grills. also it means we would not be competing for grills, tables, shade, etc. with others folks. i prefer do party in a more secluded enviroment
if cooking and setuping up the grills would be "punishment" then im cool with that. oh yeah by the way i cook for living and whats funnier still is the grill is my station.
and on the legal issue of cf i dont really think any one gives a shit, the only reason you guys got busted at def was that you guys kept hitting the house every game.

Richard,
All the points you made are valid (except for grilling being punishment.) I can see the benefits to holding the BBQ at Flood. No scavengers around, larger field, and shade next to the dugouts for easy grill watching.
That being said, DeFremery is already set up for a BBQ, and is a much easier location to facilitate a party. As for the concern about the house, I think it might be overlooked since it was almost 6 months since our last DeFremery game.
Besides, it's DeFremery. That may not mean much to you, but for most of us who've been here since the pre-modern era, DeFremery is home.

I agree with Richard. Defremery's not as good as a field as the one in Richmond or Flood, and the park at Defremery is not as good for a bbq. I don't mind playing at Defremery once in a while, though. But don't they have grills at Nichols Park? Or we could bring one. It would probably work at CF too.
