Stats Are Updated.... Current MVP?

OK everyone! All sorts of newness! Sunday’s wild games made for many changes in the record books! So everyone knows, rather than usually listing the top 3 people for each category, I have now listed the top 5. I did this, because I was seeing how many people now have massive stats. This way we can track the various title races going on at a particular time.
For career stats, I have left off “Live” game stats for now… I am having issues with the graphics.
Question: Who's your pick for MVP up to this point in the season?

I would have to say any disscusion about MVP so far would have to start with Ken, Nick, and Peter
Ken
1st in Runs(59)
1st in doubles(12)
2nd in RBI(29)
tied 3rd AVG.(.537)
tied 5th in Home Runs(4)
Nick
1st in Home runs(6)
1st in RBI(37)
2nd in doubles(11)
7th in Average(.474)
Peter
1st in Web Gems(4)
tied 2nd HR(5)
3rd in triples(4)
tied 3rd in doubles(8)
6th in Average(.506)

I would say that the HR totals for Ken and I may be less significant then they may seem. 80% of my homeruns came on one day, and Ken’s were spread out over a course of a few games. Neither of us has shown much consistency in that department, especially myself.
I would need to throw Paul and Scott into the running.
Paul is a steady power source, and what’s impressive is that he’s getting better not only with the bat, but in the field and on the bases. Paul is developing the impressive combo of power and batting average (however, the strikeouts are an issue).
Scott has been the prototypical top of the lineup guy. He leads the teams he’s on, and has a great do-what-it-takes mentality that actually yields into tangible production. Plus, Scott is a defensive improvement no matter where you place him (except perhaps for first base). Scott can hit a walk-off homerun or get the sacrifice bunt down. He is defiantly in all ways the most versatile player we have.

I am honored to be mentioned in such company.
I pretty much agree with Pat, I'd give Kenyatte the lead in the MVP race. But, there are many contenders close behind - we cannot overlook Pat himself, and Anthony, in addition to Scott, Nick and Peter already mentioned. We should probably not use simple leadership in hits, runs etc in deciding MVP. Pat and Anthony have not been playing with us long enough to be in the running for the leader in lots of categories, such as the big three: hits, runs and RBI. We need meaningful stats for average per game performance in these categories.
Oh dear, did I just volunteer myself for that task?

No comment on my own eligiblity, but if new guys like me and Anthony are talked about, William can not be overlooked. Anyway its to early to tell, us new guys need more ABs so that our performance numbers will level out. I for one don't think I can continue averaging 1 base per AB.

Hey Peter, great topic.
I think all the contenders have been mentioned, and good points about all have also been laid out already.
I have to say Thanks to Peter for your analysis of the game I bring. I'd quote you directly, but that would just be self-indulgent.
I also agree with Ken that Dave has really shown marked improvement over a relatively short period of time. He's persistent [bounced back from an 0/6 in game 2 on 4/24, to then go 5/6 in the next game on 5/1 (game 1)]. And the way he has gotten so comfortable making those shoestring catches in RF is also amazing and noteworthy -- the gems might just start piling up, I suspect.
As for my final vote for MVP, of course we need to wait to see the rest of the season.
To those who don't realize, we're only 66% through the season. We still have 8 Sundays (estimated 10-16 games) for someone to rise to the top and dominate the MVP race.
Personally, after the season and prior to placing my vote, I plan on doing some intense stat analysis focused primarily on runs scored, total bases avg/game, the winning percentage that a given player is actually on the winning team, and defensive flexibility & value.

I think it's also important to look at RBI, specifically with 2 out if possible. Although it would take some sifting through paper scoresheets, the 2-out RISP stat is the epitomy of "clutch." Otherwise, getting hits and being on-base is no good if someone doesn't have the ability to bring you home. Just ask Pat.
not doable

Yeah, that would be a great perspective, but it's not doable from the current scoresheets.
How can we change the scoresheets to reflect RISP sitiuational hitting?

why don't we use standard scoresheets (i.e. with a diamond in each inning for each batter)? Are these too expensive? If so, I'd be willing to pitch for 'em... all we really need is one and a handy dandy device known an as copy machine and we should be set...
The standard scoresheets would make it a lot easier to track more stats such as Runners Left In Scoring Position, 2 Out RBI, Fielding Percentage... we could even generate spray charts!
Oo... that last bit got me all tingly inside. Any objections?

If people don't mind, I will start to make up some ballots for the end of the season. The awards will be (based on previous discussions)
MVP(1st Choice):________________
MVP(2nd Choice):________________
MVP(3rd Choice):________________
Gold Glove (OF):________________
Gold Glove (OF):________________
Gold Glove (IF):________________
Gold Glove (IF):________________
Gold Glove (IF):________________
The reason we originally chose not to do it by position (i.e Gold Glove, SS) was because at some positions only one or 2 people play. Also, we didn't want everyone to get a reward.
I was also thinking of a rookie of the year award. This wouldn't be for a first year player (since we may have a semi-pro guy show up one day, and he'd be a rookie). I was thinking the award could be for the best player 18 or younger.
Thoughts? Things to add or subtract from the ballot?
