New Season 3 Rankings

Post by Southpaw Slim »

While I'm up at the workshop in Sonoma Co., I've come up with a new formula for my MVP rankings. It puts a much heavier weight on showing up to games than previous formulas.

((GP * 10) + (R * 0.5) + H + (2B * 0.5) + (3B * 0.75) + HR + (RBI * 0.5) + (WG * 3))

x ((AVG * 3) + SLG)

- (H / (AB - K) * K * 10)

= MVP value.

The values I have so far are limited, but as follows:
<table><tr><td>Scott L.</td><td>522.563</td></tr>
<tr><td>Mario H.</td><td>372.210 (second place even with 8 GP)</td></tr>
<tr><td>Richard J.</td><td>347.786 (strikeouts cost him 52 points)</td></tr>
<tr><td>Kenyatte D.</td><td>328.105 (3 more GP moves him ahead of Mario)</td></tr>
<tr><td>Nick W.</td><td>242.662 (<--- terrible considering 14 GP)</td></tr></table>

I've thought about giving GP a value of 5, which would make the values below:
Scott 347.923
Mario 267.730 (a difference of only 80 pts.)
Richard 214.107 (strikeouts still cost him 52 pts.)
Ken 209.350 (one GP away from 3rd place)
Nick 149.913 (still horrendous)

I think this is a better reflection of the impact these players have on every game while still marking the importance of attendance. It also amplifies the damage caused by each strikeout, and increases the value of each hit. For instance, even with no strikeouts Richard would still just barely miss second place.

Edit: I'm thinking of incorporating fantasy rankings into DeFStAr. If anyone has a formula they want to contribute, I'll add it to the list (which so far contains formulas from MLB.com and Yahoo! Sports, the Franz formula, and the formula above.)

I realized I'd left out one of the major hitters this season (and also a true defensive force) in the form of Daniel Rivera.

Min. games = 7 In one of the formulas used, GP was worth 10. In the other, it was worth 5. The stats are sorted by the "GP = 10" column. (See the post at the top of this page.)
